The success of this effort was short-lived because of the overwhelming might of the Soviet forces. Nevertheless, Hungarians throughout the world can well take pride in the gallant struggle for freedom undertaken by this brave captive nation in October, 1956. May all of us, who enjoy independence today because of men who dared to fight for freedom in 1776, join in this deserved tribute to our Hungarian friends and may the day be near when Hungary can claim again its rightful place among free nations.
