Guide to the catalogue

B The age, material, colour, decoration, state of binding. Literature on the binding, if any. The reference (Rozsondai x) is made to the table published in the essay by Ms. Marianne Rozsondai in the present volume. C Data of provenience: earlier owners are quoted possibly in chronological order, differentiated by serial numbers. The handwritten notes are given with original spelling, ownership stamps, ex libris, old location marks (possibly together with possessors) - denoting the locations of occurrence. The last piece of data is an abbreviation of the ownership stamp of the library: FK, in facsimile, with the relevant serial number as well as the year of purchase or donation, plus the purchase price, if it could be stated. D Other notes worth mentioning, marginal notes, their age, language if dif- ferring from the work’s language. Manual ornaments. E Collective volumes: entry numbers of all separate prints are provided at the first member, at all others just reference is made to the first one. If the cobound works include a post-1600 print, a short textual description is provided. F Literature on the copy. The last piece of data is the current shelf-mark of the copy in question. If the book has belonged earlier to another collection the previous location mark is also provided. Some aspects of editing the catalogue The names of co-authors, the works of further authors not in the first place on the title page, and the data from the independent inner title pages of works bound to it by publishers, with reference to the first work; as well as the names of editors, translators and other intellectual contributors are arranged in a single alphabetical order with reference to the entry number. The names of persons mentioned in titles (nomen citatum; n. cit.) have also been filed followed by the entry number. In addition to the numbered entries there are some unnumbered ones too, with a short description and in smaller print. These are sine anno printings whose publishing in the 16th century is uncertain (when the printer's activities extend to the early 17th century), or whose imprint data from the 16th century have proved to be false. The copy descriptions of these works have been omitted and their data are not included in the indices either. Justification for exclusion from among the printings of this era is given in the remarks. The letters ä, ö and ii have been filed as ae, oe and ue in the alphabetical order. Articles in nominative case have not been considered, others have, however, been treated as filing elements. XX
