1984. február 15. 5. oldal egy hangot hallott, ami ezt az Igét is­mételte: “Kérdd tőlem és odaadom néked a pogányokat örökségül, hogy üdvöm a föld végéig terjedjen.” — “Isten szava volt ez — írja Studd —, most megkaptam az indulási paran­csot Kínába. ” A másik ellenvetéssel már keve­sebb baja volt, hogy ti. milyen értel­metlen dolog, hogy egy olyan ember mint ő, elássa magát Kína belsejé­be. Milyen befolyást gyakorolhatna Anglia ifjúságára! Az ördög valószí­nűleg Mózest is hasonló érveléssel próbálta elhivatásától visszatartani: Micsoda befolyásod lenne, ha a Fáraó palotájában maradnál! — De Mózes rálépett arra az útra, amit Isten mutatott neki, mindent felszá­molt, száműzetésbe ment és népe megmentője lett. Studd is így csele­kedett és igazolódott az a tény, hogy elhívott misszionáriusok kiküldésével a haza nemcsak hogy nem veszít lel­kierejéből, hanem éppen ezáltal támad benne új élet. Olyan ébredési mozgalom keletke­zett az egyetemi hallgatók között, amilyen sem azelőtt, sem azután nem volt és amely minden angol­nyelvű egyetemre kiterjedt. Nagyon tisztelt és szeretett édes­anyja könnyei és kérései sem tudták Studd Károlyt megtéveszteni. Meg­rázó belső harca volt ugyan és majd­nem megingott elhatározásában, de ekkor Isten újra szólt és ez végleg el­döntött mindent. Egyik este nagyon későn, csügged­ten állt a pályaudvar peronján. Is­tenhez könyörgött, adja tudtára akaratát. Elővette Újszövetségét, fel­nyitotta és ezt olvasta: “Az ember­nek ellenségévé lesz egész házané­­pe.” Ettől a pillanattól kezdve nem nézett többé hátra. Néhány nappal ezután Hudson Taylorral, a Kína Belföldi Misszió igazgatójával beszélgetett. Felvették a misszió társaság tagjai közé. Barát­ja Stanley Smith, a Cambridge-i evezősök vezetője is meghallotta Is­ten hívását. Néhány héten belül még öt fiatalember jelentkezett a misszió­ba. Rövid időn belül az egész egyházi és világi sajtó elhíresztelte a nagy új­ságot, hogy hét fiatal férfi Kínába készül, akik közül öt sportcsillag, köztük Studd Károly, az országszerte ismert krikettjátékos. Nem volt még a misszió történetében ilyen önkén­tes csapat, amellyel a nagy nyilvá­nosság annyit foglalkozott volna, mint ezzel a hét fiatalemberrel. Csak egészen röviden emlékezünk meg arról a már említett ébredésről, ami az egyetemi hallgatók között tá­madt. Ok heten nagy összejöveteleket tartottak Angliában, különösen az egyetemi városokban. Elutazásuk előtt még három nagy búcsúösszejö­vetel volt Cambridge-ben, Oxford­­ban és Londonban. Professzorok és hallgatók bizonyságtételei tanúsítot­ták, hogy az előadások nemcsak pil­lanatnyi, hanem nagyon mély, tar­tós hatást idéztek elő. (.Folytatjuk.) A VISIT TO HUNGARY AND ROMANIA----------------------------------------------ERNESTJ. KISH-----------------------------------------­II. Back in Hungary, we had the privilege of visiting three Baptist Churches. I was asked to speak in all of these churches and \ did so with­out having to fear any consequences. I attended the opening service of the school year of the Seminary which was held at the Újpest Church in Bu­dapest. Here Iwas asked to translate the proceedings to a group of Amer­ican representatives of the Southern Baptist Convention. This was a real joy for me because it gave me an op­portunity to meet with these very fine Christian observers. This church had just been rebuilt and is a very beautiful structure with a seating ca­pacity of 350 — 400 people. The re­building of this church came after much discussion and negotiation with governmental authorities. An apartment building for the preacher and the caretaker was also added to the church structure itself. We also visited the Baptist Church in Pécel where Dr. László Gerzsenyi is the pastor. This building too was just recently refurbished for the membership of 250 faithful and de­dicated persons. I had the singular pleasure here of being asked to conduct their 55 voiced choir in a number of my choosing. What a joy it was for me to lead this group through the singing of “Az Úr az én őrizőm. ” I cannot say enough for the musical talent that I found every­where that I traveled. It is little wonder that our early Hungarian churches here in our own country were so heavily involved with music in their worship services. In Hun­gary, a new Organists’ Guild is being formed at this time which will eventually grant ratings and courses of study for the many fine organists in the Baptist Congregations. We also had the pleasure of at­tending worship services in the city of Pécs which is in the southwestern sector of the country. Currently, this congregation is also in the process of building a new church building with a capacity of over 650 seats. I visited this new building which has been under construction for three years. This will be a very fine look­ing building with a bell tower and many church school rooms for study and meetings. The brethren have been patiently doing the building and using the finest materials that are available. It is now more than 70% finished and it is their hope to have opening services in their new building by next Easter. There has been other new church construction throughout the country as well. It seems as though there is a somewhat more relaxed relationship between church and state at this time. There still are however, some problems between church groups and the state. These can be deduced by what is being said by the people and what is not being said. Church authorities in Hungary rely upon the Office of Church Affairs for their continued existence. Any new rules or regulations are directed to the individual church leadership for implementation. It is therefore the responsibility of these church leaders to control their church groups to remain within the confines of these new regulations. Any unpopular re­gulation therefore, is not presented as a demand of the government, but rather a ruling from the church leadership itself. Our Hungarian brethren have learned to live with and put up with these demands and
