It was in the literary langnage, “modern, but distinguished, ” the director says. Society translators have laboured for the past four years on a New Testament version, similar to Today’s English Version. The first volume — the four gospel — was released this year with 15,000 copies. The Polish Bible Society was linked as early as 1816 to the British and Foreign Bible Society, and retained its name as a branch until ten years ago. A traveler in East Europe early in the last century could find only three Bibles in Poland, in the King’s palace, in the National Curia, and a very old Reformation Bible in a peasant home. The traveler, a Mr. Pinckerton, persuaded the Minister of Religious Affairs to allow establishment of a branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. The father of Barbara Enholc- Narzynska was the Society’s director CONTRIBUTIONS November, 1980 Mr. and Mrs. Theodor Merkl, Pompano Beach. Fla. $100.00; Silliman Memorial Baptist Church. When he told her, “You must be my successor, ” she was studying interior architecture and had no wish to take up his work. But after two year of his daily insistence she agreed to attempt theological studies. As the only women then at her theological faculty, she recalls praying, “Lord, help me not to pass the examinations!” But after receiving high marks she said, “Lord, you just don’t hear my voice!” Turning to a work with homeless children she discovered that they loved her story-telling from the Bible. “I found then that what I had resisted was my gift and calling, ” she admits. She then took an advanced theological degree and began writing a history of the Bible Society. Except for one small Bible edition printed in England, all printing today is done at Poland’s two main printing houses. “We have money from sales and as we produce more Scripture we have more funds. These are used for production, distribution and administration costs, ” the director says. But all the Society’s work depends on paper, and amounts needed from its friends in other countries are enormous. One Kilogramme of paper is required to produce one Bible; nearly 35 tons are needed for a New Testament edition; and the Society’s present schedule demands at least 100 tons of paper stock yearly. “Since paper is a priority item we are relieved from paying customs duties on our shipments from abroad,’’she says. The main need is for offset quality stock of 50 gramme weight, in the normal 61/86 centimetre format. A recent Polish television feature on books included the Bible Society’s work. And last year, editors of “Poland” magazine — circulated internationally in five languages — asked Mrs. Enholc-Narzynska to write an article about the Society. The response was so great they have commissioned a further series for future issues. But her concern for God s Word is not limited to Poland. She concluded the interview with these words: “I hope that in all countries the Bible will be more widely read. ” (EBPS 80:134) SZÖVETSÉGÜNK TÖRTÉNETE (Folytatás az 5. oldalról) jai: Bállá György, Wancha Sándor és Fodor József. Az Evangéliumi Hírnökben minden hónapban helyet adnak a menházi jelentések közlésére. 1956. július 11-től 16-ig Clevelandban (Fulton Road) kerül sor a közgyűlésre. A korábban elkezdett 5000 dolláros belmissziói kampányt tovább folytatják. 1958. július 9-től 13-ig Clevelandban, a West Side-i gyülekezet rendezésében a Szövetség megtartotta 50 éves jubileumi konvencióját.
