With Christian love, Helen Toth Salyards * * * MAY AT BETHESDA With the passing of May, Bethesda has closed another year of service to our aging citizens. Since our fiscal year closes on May 31st, it is time to reflect on the progress that has been made throughout the year. It is our feeling that 1978-1979 has been a very significant year in our long and illustrious history. It was in June of 1924 when our Home was established, and thus we have just concluded fifty-five years of service. The progress that has been made during this period of time can only be measured by the fact that we have outgrown every building and addition that has been constructed. Even now, with our new addition, we are full, and the demands for our services far outnumber the rooms which we can provide. If we doubled our capacity, I’m sure that we would have no problem keeping our rooms full. Your Home presently is a very beautiful facility. We have a total of 47 rooms in our main building, plus four efficiency apartments, as well as four separate houses on our almost twenty acres of land. In addition, we have a nice carpeted lounge, an adequate dining room, and even an activity area for Arts and Crafts. Our grounds are nicely landscaped, and we have a beautiful promenade leading to our formal garden and fountain. Fifteen hundred feet of our land is adjacent to Turkey Creek which in itself adds much to the value of our property. On our property we have many fruit trees such as all varieties of citrus, mulberry, fig, peach, mango, avocado, pomegranate, apple and persimmon. Some of our citrus trees are old and are slowly but surely being replaced. We have also planted many young fruit trees so that future generations will benefit from our labors. God has been good to Bethesda during the past fifty-five years. There have been many prayers to God during this time by many people. There have been tears of concern and tears of joy, but our faith in God for the work we are doing has never diminished. Our 6. oldal_________________________________ faith even today is strong, and if I sound embused and pleased about what is going on at Bethesda, it is because I am enthused and pleased. For all that has taken place, we can only say, “to God be the Glory.” There have been many men and women who have worked hard to make Bethesda what it is today. We thank God for all of you who have upheld us with your prayers and support over the past fifty-five years. Without your help, our efforts would be limited to that which only a few of us can do. Together we can do much with our aging citizens- all to the Glory of God. During the past year we completed a new addition to our facility. We had upgrated our older rooms and refinished all of our furniture. We completed the repaving of our roads and relandscaped the area surrounding our Home. We completed our promenade and created a beautiful formal garden. All that has been done was done with the blessings of our parent organization, the Hungarian Baptist Union of America, under the direction of our very capable Board of Directors. You all know that building costs today have skyrocketed, and this naturally had an effect on our project as well. We have completed the first phase of our present building plans, and for this we are grateful to God. We do have a sizable mortgage however, but we are trusting God to provide our needs. A full financial report will be given at our next Convention on July 12 th in Los Angeles, California. If you cannot attend and would like a copy of our financial statement for the year, I will be happy to send you one, if you would make your request known to me. At this time I can assure you that because of your help, we are not operating at a loss, but rather, with a small but definite profit. We have still yet much work to do in the coming year. We must replace our call system in our older buildings. This is a legal requirement and a very expensive project which will cost us in excess of $16,000. In addition, we must purchase new chine and a new stove for our kitchen. We have been prodded by our environmentalist to cap our free flowing sulphur well. This is a major undertaking and will cost us approximately $3,000. In addition,------------------------------jfenjgwi i to 11-—----------------------------it is our plan to add a new wing to our present facility to house a small library and conference room, a beauty parlor and two public rest rooms. Thus you see that we will not rest upon our laurels, but will continue to upgrade your Home until we have the finest in the state. Our reputation in Florida is well known by every governmental organization. We receive inquiries from every state in our Country and from Canada. All of this is taking place in spite of the fact that we do no advertising. We see the hand of God in all that is happening. We therefore face the future confidently and with every assurance of God’s continued guidance throughout the year to come. May God bless you all. ErnestJ.
