It was the time when important Home and Hungarian Baptist Union Committees met to discuss important Home and Union business. We were indeed happy to host these dedicated Christian men and women from all areas of our country and from Canada. In all, approximately twenty-one members of the Finance, Missions and Executive Committees met to resolve important issues and to promulgate plans for an even more effective ministry. These men and women gave of their time, energy and money for the work of the Lord. I commend each of them to you for your prayers and backing. May God richly bless their efforts, and may their decisions help to further build the Kingdom of God here on earth. Plans for the expansion of our Home are progressing at a fast pace. We will be opening' and examining the bids for the work on February 27th. After that, we will select the builder and move ahead with the construction. Your Board of Directors has met on this matter a number of times, and much prayer and thought has gone into the project. We are confident that with your prayers and with the help of God, this project will soon be completed, and we will then be able to extend our services to more of our aging citizens. Please continue us in your prayers. Some of you have on occasion questioned the wisdom of expanding our facilities and indeed even the continuance of the operation of the Home. The answer to these questions can more readily be given by the resident of the Home. They often tell us that without the Home, they do not know where they would go. Or, without the Home, their lives would not be worth living. These and many other comments come from aged mothers and fathers who are enjoying their waning days to the fullest possible extent. We provide these needs for them. One look at their faces would answer all questions that we may have. Many of these loved ones have but little income to provide for their needs. The Home therefore subsidizes their stay with services which cost many hundreds of dollars each month. We have never refused entry to any one of our old time Hungarians or even others for reasons of money. We are a missionary arm of the Union, and we therefore feel that this is another area of service in the building of God’s Kingdom. Whereas the Lord was not speaking specifically of Bethesda when He said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me” it is my thinking that He was not excluding us from this charge. We therefore take in the needy as well as those who are able to provide for themselves. It is for this reason that we exist today, and it is for this reason that we wish to expand our services to more and more of God’s children. Our Union and your Board of Directors have prayed much on this decision, and I know that God will bless our endeavor if we but place our complete trust in Him. February in Florida was a cold, cold month. Our temperatures ranged ten degrees lower than normal. This had an adverse effect on our residents, and as a result, we had many of our folks suffering from the flu and other illnesses. We know that so many of our northern friends had to contend with much the same problems during the course of this past winter. As of this writing, our temperature is ranging in the 80’s, and it is our hope that warm weather will soon be back to stay. Please continue to uphold us with your prayers. Together we can do much for the Lord. This is our challenge and our desire. God bless you all. Ernest J.
