cary School with the with the conduction of their teacher, Mihály Mezei erected a new cross in 1974. The wood was provided by the forestry and the carpentry was done for free by Antal Gál. The cross was carefully hidden with leafy boughs and was brought co the place on a carriage in the darkness of the night. 220. The soldiers died in the military hospital during the 1848-49 war of independence were buried at a place assigned for this purpose. In the Soldiers' Cemetery 604 Hungarian and 175 imperial soldiers lie in peace in this common graves. In 1998 the Local Government renovated the fence of the cemetery and placed six crosses on the grave. 221. The Cultural Union of Esztergom erected a memorial cross on Szamárhegy (che Donkey's Hill) on 21 March 1992. It is a memorial of the Hungarian heroes killed in the battles on Szamárheg)' and in the near-by in the last months of World War II. Since then in every March a commemoration feast has been held here, and the assembly lies wreaths at the cross. 222. The cemetery plot of the nuns ofVíziváros is in the Szentgyörgymező cemetery, beside the hedgerow at the end of the row of tombs. The approximately 70 graves was given the same kind of artificial stone plate which carries the name and the date of death of the sister. A white stone cross stands before the graves. It has the inscription: Cemetery of the nuns of Víziváros. In 1999 the plot was surrounded with a 70cm high brick wall and the plates were placed on it. Also a columbary was erected behind the cross. V. TOMBSTONES V. 1. THE CEMETERY IN THE CITY CENTRE Endre Kaposi 223. The 2 m high statue of the standing Christ of white marble can be found on the grave of the Kókay family. 224. Pair of angels on their knees. The 140cm high statue was made of artificial scone. The inscription of the grave is illegible. It is the grave of the Németh family from the 1960's. 225. The life size statue representing the head of Christ with the thorn wreath was made of stone. It can be found on the grave of the Zábori Záborszki family.
