and floral motives. On the column stands the statue of the Immaculate Concession. Flush the column stands the statue of Saint Sebastian on the left, and Saint Roch on the right. There are several inscriptions on the pillar: eg. on the front baroque cartouche: D(eo) O(ptimo) M(aximo). DIVAE MARIAE LABE ORIGINALl PRAESERVITATAE VIRG1NI DEIPARAE OB GIVES A PESTE SERVATOS ANNO XST1 MDCCXL. To the Almighty and Merciful God. To the honour of the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God, from the citizens protected from the plague in the 1740th year of Christ. There is another text in this cartouche: IN MEMOR PRO NUNC SOLEMNITER DE IMAC. CONCEP. DOGMÁT. RENOV. FECER. DEVOT1 CIVES MDCCCLV. Renovated by the devoted citizens on occasion of the announciation of the dogma of the Immaculate Concession. 1855. On the backside: REN. A. DOM. MDCCXXXVI. Renovated in 1786. Under the lying Saint Rose: PI ETAS FIDELIUM RENOV. 1934 IN HON. B. MARIAE VIRG. From the devotion of the people, it was renovated in honour of Holy Mary, in 1934 At the feet of tile Statue of Charles of Borrome: FIDELIUM PIETAS DENUO RENOVARI FECIT ANNO DOMINI MDCCCLXXXIX. Newly renovated by the piety of the people in 1889. The newest inscription: ANNO VISITATIONS JOANNIS PAULI PP. II. RENOVATUM. 1991. Renovated in the year of the visit of John Paul II. to Hungary, 1991. In 1739 there was another epidemic of plague in the area. People avoided by the infection erected this votive statue near the southernside wall of the »Vizivaros-church« (»Banktown or Watertown-church). This church become cathedral of the archbishopric returned from Nagyszombat (today Trnava, Slovakia). When the enlargement of the vestry became necessary, the group of statues was placed near the Wacer-gate -which today cannoc be seen. When arranging the area in 1865, the group was taken where it stands today. The author is not known, but the name of Károly Bebó occurred. He was the author of the Oldchurch's pulpit in the Centre. Maybe through some comparative researches the author could be identified. 4. The Frontage Statues of the City Centre's Church. On the frontage of the church we find two sandstone angels with wings. Today's city-centre church, the so-called »Old-Church« was designed for the request of the city by the architect Lucas Schrom. It is still not clear why Ignatius Oratsek was made to work out some new plans in 1757. A contract was made with János Henrik Jäger according to which he was to do the masonry-works. With him worked Sebestyén Kitzenberger »Magister Lapidica«, or stonemason form Esztergom, and the most part of the works were done by him. It is rather probable that he carved the angels between 1760 and 1762.
