MA KAI JÁNOS A VLAGYIMIR-SZUZDALI FEJEDELEMSÉG KÜLPOLITIKÁJA A 12. SZÁZAD 60-70-ES ÉVEIBEN ABSTRACT: {Foreign policy of the Vladimir - Suzdal Principality in the 1160s and 1170s) In the author's opinion, the foreign policy of the Vladimir - Suzdal Principality in the 1160s and 1170s was first of all the foreign policy of Prince Andrei. He was given the nickname „Bogoliubsky" (God-loving), after the village of Bogoliubovo which had been chosen as the site of his fortified castle. So this essay studies the steps he took and the endeavours he strove for. Foreign policy of Andrei Bogoliubsky can not be assessed as a completely positive or negative one because of the alternations of his successes and failures. With the attacks on the Volga-Bulgars (in 1164, 1171-1172), the Prince, in all probability contributed to the later successes of his younger brother Vsevolod, as Novgorod was under Andrei's control until his death. However, it seems to be indisputable that he had illusions with regard to Kiev. His aims in 1169 seemed to be realistic because the coalition, organized by him, occupied the town by the river bank of Dneper. On the other hand, he was defeated at Vishgorod in 1173 and it could be one of the reasons for his tragic death. It would be incorrect to think that Prince Andrei's political influence ended after 1173. After the defeat at Vishgorod, the monarch of Vladimir lost only his supremacy but he still remained an important Old-russian Prince and the „pointer of the scales". A Szuzdali Fejedelemség külpolitikája a 12. század 30-50-es éveiben is elsősorban a szuzdali uralkodó külpolitikája volt. A hatalmi képlet három fontos eleme ugyan létezett Északkelet-Oroszországban, a források azonban a fejedelem, Jurij Dolgorukij szerepét domborítják ki. 133
