RÉSUMÉ: (Aspec is of the examination of the enrolment of tire legal profession for the archiepiscopal academy of law in Eger in tf»e first part of the bourgeois period /1061-1913/) Academies of law have played an important, and at the same time irregular role in the system of Hungarian higher education until the middle of the 20century, liiese institutions guaranteed mainly the replacement for state offices — they were chiefly oriented on a practical kind of education —, and this is the fact that accounts for their special political importance. We follow up the main tendencies of ttie enrolment of 1307 lawstudents on the basis of the register of students, considering three, seemingly unrelated aspects: the region of the country where the student came from, the type of secondary school attended, and religious denomination.
