CONTENT In course of pathogenesis in plants, at the site of infection and in the surrounding tissues compounds with phenolic character are produced and stored. These compounds emith a bluish-white fluorescent light, if irradiated with ultraviolet light. The observation of fluorescences presents a proof to the occurrence of infection on one hand and the phenomenon can be used for determining the grade ofplant resistance, on the other. The resistance or grade of susceptibility against the given pathogen can be meassured and expressed in numbers in a comparatively very short time (20—30 hours). 537
