Hernádi Lászlóné: A 2005-ben indult idegenvezető kurzus tapasztalatai — egy nyelvtanár szemével
HERNÁDI LÁSZLÓNÉ A 2005-ben indult idegenvezető kurzus tapasztalatai egy nyelvtanár szemével Experiences of the 2005 guiding course - as a teacher of English can see it In 1998 tourism specialisation was launched at Eszterházy Károly College. As a syndicate member, the institute joined international projects the aim of which was to elaborate a new, two-year tourism manager higher-level vocational course. Introducing it in the Hungarian educational system was especially stressed. In 2000 the College was entitled to start the tourism manager course with village tourism specialisation in its own right. The Guiding course initiated in September 2005 is suitable for the tourism programme of the College. The candidates joined the syllabus of the tourism managers, besides had subjects like guiding, methodology of guiding, civilisation. They were allowed to take their final exams provided they had a complex intermediate language exam, (oral+written parts). Most students had it inEnglish, there were a lot fewer students of German. From the aspect of a language teacher it is a lot more exciting and unique to teach on a course like the above mentioned because the acquisition of oral skills is especially highlighted. It is a real challenge nowadays when students have to prove their knowledge almost always in written forms. Yet working in tourism it seems essential to be able to talk to the guest in a clear and concise way. The most problematic part of the academic year was the tense they felt about their language exams. While studying the professional subjects, students were worried if they could pass their language exam, access to their final exams. Since this training course is part of the tourism management programme, I would find it better in the long run if students were expected a professional language exam. The Business Language Group of the College - where I have been working, too -, has been an accredited place of examination of the Budapest Business School since 2000 and we help our students in preparing for this kind of exam. If the above suggestion is realized, such candidates could work in the field of tourism who have a kind of sophisticated and up-to-date knowledge of the given language, which enables them to communicate with the foreigners in a perfect way.
