Gotovina, Arhiv republike Slovenije i LOTUS NOTES-Spis, Arh. vjesn., god. 45 (2002), str. 43-49 Summary ARCHIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA AND LOTUS NOTES-Spis Until 1994, when Decree on Records Management and Procedures of Administration Bodies with records was introduced, administration didn't keep registers of records in a uniform manner, which posed many problems to archivists selecting archives from records. In the same year, Government Center for Informatics of the Republic of Slovenia started developing a computer application for use throughout the public administration in Slovenia, also calling archivists for cooperation. Since the beginning the provisions of the new Decree on Records Management were observed in development of the application (LOTUS NOTES-Spis). Archives of the Republic of Slovenia and creators of archives cooperate in preparing classification schemes, assigning retention periods and creating a regulation on selecting archives from records (based on classification scheme for arranging files according to contents, but also covering archives that are not arranged following the content principle). Archivists expect further development of LOTUS NOTES-Spis to make it possible to accession archives according to Archives and Archival Institutions Act and Regulation on Selection and Transfer of Public Archives to Archival Institutions, as well as to enable transfer of certain from LOTUS database directly into INFO-ARH (application currently under development) at the time of accessioning. The essential difference between the new Decree on Managing Records of Public Administration from 2001 and the Decree from 1994 is that the latter standardizes management of electronic records, especially the conditions that IT equipment has to provide in order for the data to be stored in the form that enables us to establish its origin, to whom they were sent to or time and place of their sending, as well as to prevent any changes or deletions. Ever broader interdisciplinary cooperation of archivists, information technology experts, lawyers and state administration employees is desirable in further development of records management.
