Parish archives, arised from the activities of parish offices on the territory of particular dioceses, are not sufficiently evaluated, what makes them very often neglected and inappropriately stored. Being through this directly endangered, they need urgent arrangement. Considerable number of parish archives asks for appropriate number of qualified archivists, but there is obvious lack of them. Therefore, the author stimulates parish priests to grapple with the problem of arrangement by themselves. To make them capable for that, author tries to familiarize parish priests with kinds of records usually present in parish archives. He exposes all kinds of registers and books known in the parish recordkeeping history, and all kinds of papers and other records present in parish archives. He warns that more important records have been usually registered in correspondence registers since the half of 19th century. At the same time, there is a sensible part of records which have never been registered. Considering the fact that most of these records have usually been created during the acceptance of holy sacraments, author proposes their arrangement and listing in accordance with that. Ha warns also of new kinds of records - film tracks, video tapes and electronic records - which should also have their place in parish archives. Regarding the fact that parish priests are usually not qualified archivists, the author presents to them certain important steps towards well arranged and listed archives. Correctly arranged and usable archives must have listed basic archival units, i.e. register volumes and folders or files. The author proposes tripartite classification codes: letter, roman number and arab number, where the letter refers to the subgroup, roman number to the series, and arab number to the volume or folder. With such tripartite codes, all archival units should be connected into the harmonical whole of archival fonds, and, at the same time, should stay open for new accruals. To make a 207
