Soltészné Lédeczi Judit - Takács Miklós (szerk.): A ceglédi Kossuth Lajos Gimnázium Leánykara (Cegléd, 1994)

The Kossuth Lajos Secondary Grammar School was founded by the citizens of the town of Cegléd in 1899. In the surrounding towns: Nagykőrös, Kecskemét, Szolnok secondary schools were already in existence, but the "town of Kossuth" was not afforded this opportu­nity by the government of the time. After the town architect János Dobos had made a foundation of a significant sum and the citizens had paid voluntary taxes, this beatuful school was built according to Gyula Pártos' plans in 1903 and has been one of the town's most beautiful public buildings ever since. At that time it was planned to accomodate 12 classes, and now - although we are filled to capacity - we can house even 20 classes thanks to the significant reconstruction works carried out between 1974 and 1980. At present we are having a 4 year secondary education and have newly started the 8 year system, the system in which this institution had worked until 1946. Foreign languages and natural sciences play a specially important part in the educational programme of our school. Nowadays the Kossuth Grammar School is an important institution for educating future professionals. Participants and winners of nation­al study contests, outstanding numbers of students admitted to uni­versities and colleges represent the quality of work done here, Well­­known politicians, artists, sportsmen and public figures have finished their studies at our school during its nearly 100 years of existence, They are happy to recall the days spent here and are proud of the school's traditions and spirit.
