Dear Calvin Synod Congregations, Dear Brothers and Sisters, We live in a world in which we know that God is at work, but nothing is done yet, things are ongoing, and everything changes. Even in our Synod we face many changes, both positive and negative. This in turn raises many more questions in our everyday life. In this devotion let us look at one of life’s greatest questions. This is the question of intention, What is my purpose? Let me be a little bit more specific, What is God's purpose for my life? It is important to talk about it since we are dealing with it while trying to find the answer to similar questions in our churches and Synod now, in our questionnaire: “What is the purpose of your congregation? ” “What would be your suggestions to fulfill the purpose of Calvin Synod? ” Many people are going through life, thinking and wondering if there really is more to this life. The apostle Paul gives us a very clear answer. In Ephesians 1:11 he uses the word “predestined.” In Ephesians 1:4-5 he writes, “For [the Father] chose us in [Christ] before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ in accordance with his pleasure and will. ” It basically means that God created you and me for an important purpose. King Solomon, in the book of Proverbs wrote, “The Lord has made everything for His own purpose ” (Prov. 16:4a NLT). Now God has never created anything without a purpose. Every rock has a purpose, every plant has a purpose, and every animal has a purpose. And guess what, He has a special purpose with you. When Jesus was among us here on earth, as the Word of God says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14) that was for a purpose. I am convinced that wherever Jesus went and whatever He did, He had a purpose with all that. He had a purpose with Zacchaeus, Levi, Simon, the demon possessed man of the Garasenes, the lame, the leper, Saul of Tarsus, or when He
