10 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Calvin Synod Fund - Continuedfrom page 4 30 students in both classes. Our graduates are flourishing and here I would like to pause and remember all of you that helped our students graduate through the support of the Godparent’s program. We had the small area next to our school asphalted and it will be rubber topped this spring to make a playground for the students. Those of our students who had Godparent’s assigned in 2013 will write to them this Christmas, the others will be assigned at the end of January, pending the results of their midterms. We thanks all contributors to our building fund and Bela Szigethy for his most generous donation. We desperately need a student meeting/gathering center and will try to renovate the storage room in the basement. We wish all our brethren a blessed Christmas, filled with happiness and the best of health for the New Year. With gratitude and love, in the name of the Kolozsvár Reformed Church’s Collegiate, Árpád Székely, principal News from Nagyenyed: The Bethlen Gábor Collegiate in Nagyenyed is filled to capacity, within the government allowed number of grades. Many of our students come from outlying areas. We have introduced a student support system, so the boarders can afford the $800 yearly tuition. We have been very lucky in that the City supported a grant proposal to the EU and all of our buildings are being renovated. One building has been completed to date and we are hoping the rest will be ready by the start of the 2014 school year. You can view our progress at: http:// www.bethlengabor.ro/files/sulijavitas/ Our daily school life is filled with activities, we have a chorus, a renaissance dance group, an orchestra, folk dance group, Hungarian scouting, and literature and science self study groups. These are all run by our teacher volunteers, in their spare time. By this we are hoping to influence our students to remain active community volunteers in their adult life. Actually our school’s motto is to support academic achievements and community building. We believe this will help our Transylvanian society to flourish. Thank you for your support and may God bless your communities. We ask for peace in this time of advent and waiting for the Blessed Christmas, Sincerely, in the name of the Bethlen Gábor Collegiate students and staff, Ildikó Szőcs, principal. From Székelyudvarhely: Let me share our views on what differentiates a public school from our parochial school. Both are communities, both educate, both teach behavior, but in a parochial school, God is present, and these teachings happen with His guidance and with His blessing. This creates a different loving and respectful atmosphere and it is under the influence of this atmosphere that our students act and talk a little differently. A Quote from the scriptures: 2Kor 9,7 “...a God loves those who give with joy. ” With this thought let me thank all our donors and supporters, and let me wish you a Blessed Christmas and New Year, Sincerely, Zsolt Tőkés principal at the Baczkamadarasi Kis Gergely Reformed Church’s Collegiate in Székelyudvarhely. 2013 Year end statistics for the Calvin Synod School Fund: We started our mission work in 1991, when the government allowed the Reformed Church to restart the Kolozsvár Collegiate in four classrooms in a technical school.
