CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 9 Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp Report July 20-26, 2014 Laurelville Mennonite Church Center, Mount Pleasant, PA 2014 Youth Camp Group Picture Camp Directors: Mr. Gabe Csapó (Hungarian Reformed Church of America) Rt. Rev. Dr. Csaba Krasznai (Calvin Synod) Program and Activity Coordinator: Ms. Maryann Parsons The Mission Statement of the Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp is "We are committed to providing the youth with sound biblical teaching of God’s moral absolutes, to model our Christian faith through a wide array of programming and fellowship, and encouraging [the campers] to build friendships among themselves for strengthening the Body of Christ, the Church” (Youth Camp booklet page 1). The main theme for this year’s Youth Camp was entitled “In a World of Change” based on Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (NIV). We had five main speakers who gave great presentations on the following topics: Monday - Our Unchanging God, Tuesday - Grief & Loss, Wednesday - Changing Your Current Circumstances, Thursday - Life’s Hard Questions, Friday - Victory From a Setback. The main speakers were Rt. Rev. Dr. Csaba Krasznai, Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Rev. Judit Mayer, Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi, and Pastor Walter Goss. This year we had a few major changes compared to the previous years. We invited Junior Campers for this year, ages 9-12. The camp staff worked hard to adjust the schedule, the programs, and activities accordingly in order to make this year’s camp a blessing for all the campers, counselors, and participants. The attendance was the highest compared to the previous years. There were 18 Junior Campers, 31 Youth Campers, 4 small children, 4 Counselors In Training (C.I.T.s), 17 Counselors, and 2 guests. In addition to the existing workshops, we had a new one, the Hungarian Language & Culture workshop led by Beata Krasznai. We learned about Hungary, its history and language through a Power Point presentation. We also learned folk dances taught by Csenge Konkoly, Intern of the Körösi Csorna Sándor Scholarship Program. The camp programs and activities were very well planned with spiritual programs and physical activities. Every day there was an hour-long Bible Study after lunch. The campers and the counselors split into groups. Each day they moved to a different study session led by one of the Counselors. On the rest of the afternoons and evenings, we had team challenge, field activities, and workshops. The main programs for the evening that the campers really enjoyed were the Initiation of New Campers and the Talent Show. On Wednesday, we did our traditional tour and visited the Bethlen Communities in Ligonier. After the delicious lunch was served to the residents of the nursing home, we had friendly visits, fellowship, Christian songs, and prayer. Friday night we held the Consecration Service with Holy Communion led by Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi, Rev. Judith Tobias, Rev. Judit
