CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 5 Calvin Synod and West Penn Conference churches. The Delegates passed a recommendation: “Calvin Synod reaffirms its support of the efforts of Faithful and Welcoming Churches, and urges our churches and members to contribute to its efforts as we join in partnership with it.” Calvin Synod will be represented at the UCC General Synod of the this summer in Tampa, FL, by Rev. Albert W. Kovács and Bishop Bela Poznan. Archives and Museums With the expectancy of the “Bethlen Heritage Center” opening soon in Ligonier, as a museum and archive for Hungarian Reformed churches, the necessity for Synod and the churches to responsibly accept “ownership” was highlighted, as a repository and also meeting its needs for continuing financial support.. The presentation acknowledged the continuing need for coordination of its efforts with the New Brunswick, NJ, facility of the American Hungarian Foundation. Bishop and Conference Council The committee reviewing the Bishop’s annual report recognized Calvin Synod’s intra-church connections and Bishop Poznan’s efforts to build ties with the denomination and the Reformed churches abroad. It noted the Synod’s reliance on kindred churches across the ocean to supply the needs of the bilingual congregations. The Delegates supported a recommendation that, “Calvin Synod should continue to play a vigorous role in the renewal of the Church’s life in the United States, contributing through its confessional foundations to biblically based teaching by the churches about moral personal and civil life.” Study of the Conference Council's labors revealed their difficulties from delays in the churches remittances, and the Delegates voiced that “Synod expresses its concern about cash flow shortfalls necessitating delay of payments due or expected obligations, and urges all congregations to make monthly, or at least quarterly, payments on their anticipated apportionments.” Hungary’s New Constitution The Delegates applauded the Parliament and state leadership for the unique new law of the land forsaking communist era principles, and reflecting the nation’s Christian roots. The Constitution promotes traditional family values supporting marriages of men and women, and assures the right to life of the unborn children in a freedom loving nation. The officers of the Conference Council were directed to communicate the resolution to all appropriate offices abroad, in Hungary, and the U.S. Rev. Albert W. Kovács soc# Rt. Rev. Koloman K. The bus first took the Delegates to the nearby Flight 93 Memorial Chapel where they were greeted by Bishop Alphonse Mascherino, founder of the chapel. With his participation also, Rt. Rev. Bela Poznan led a brief devotional service, assisted by Rt. Rev. Csaba Krasznai and Rt. Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig. A meditation by Bishop Poznan centered on the text: “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Had the passengers not stopped the plane’s path, it would have been crashed into a US capitol target in Washington, DC., as the one which struck the Pentagon, with great loss of life. Then they visited the open field crash location, dubbed “A common field one day, a field of honor forever.” A temporary memorial is open. On the tenth anniversaiy this September 11th, the first phase of permanent remembrance will be dedicated with musical tributes, wreath laying, and additional activities. All weekend the events are open to the public and no tickets are required, to honor the Americans by a nation that holds every individual life is worth living, and each worth dying for. Keeping Faith With America’s Heroes John Quincy Adams: “Posterity -you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. ” Flight 93: “Let’s roll!”
