Bertalan Executive Director Michael Walker Administrator Central Classis Meeting It was a different Classis Meeting than usual on October 2, 2010, for Central Classis. Dr. Robert Gagnon, Professor of New Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary led an insightful workshop on Spirituality According to the Gospel of John. It was an introduction to the Classis Retreat (October 22 and 23) on spirituality as viewed in the other Gospels. The Bethlen Conference Center, Ligonier, PA, hosted the session. As he begins his term, Bishop Bela Poznan shared information on the transition underway with the election of new officers in Calvin Synod. Noting the decline in membership and the attendant loss of income to Synod as well as its churches, he stressed the economies needed to keep within the budget and the constraints on travel by the officers. He informed the Classis of grouping church visits in areas to minimize costs. With terms expiring, elections were held and the Rev. Imre A. Bertalan was asked to continue in office for another two years, as was the Classis Secretary Mrs. Patricia A. McLean. Since Mrs. Virginia Roby chose to retire from the office after many faithful years, the Classis elected Mr. Wilburn A. Roby, Jr., the Classis Treasurer. Upon the request of Mrs. Arlene Csornán also to conclude her service, Mr. George Kohl was elected the Classis Presbyter. They were installed in office by Bishop Poznan. Dr. István Komjáthy made a Powerpoint Presentation on the Medical Mission work in Beregszász, Ukraine. He noted the medical equipment and supplies that were donated, including basics such as bandages and prescriptions for diabetes and heart issues. Rev. Dr. Joseph Posta led the opening devotional. Donations were authorized by the Classis, to the Medical Mission and to the Bethlen Heritage Center. Several resolutions were passed and remitted to the Conference Council for early revue and comment prior to the next Classis and Synod meetings. Rev. Albert IV. Kovács CT SCANNER for Beregszász! Rev.
