10 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Continued from page 9 lights, Christmas trees, snowmen and elves. Even Santa and Mrs. Claus showed up to pass out gifts. Thursday night’s program was the Talent Show. This program gave all of the campers an opportunity to put on skits that expanded on the week’s Bible themes. Friday night’s program was the high point of the week - the Consecration Service. The campers dressed up for this night and stood around the campfire as Bishop Ludwig reflected on the week’s activities and topics. We then moved in a candlelight procession to the Meeting House for Holy Communion. Outside afterwards we shared hugs, tears and smiles knowing in the morning we will all be heading home. Saturday morning came too soon and after breakfast with quick hugs and “See you soon!” we all headed for home. Several items deserve special mention. Dinner for four of the five camp days was different than in years past. To save money this year, the counselors volunteered to cook dinner for three nights while William Penn provided the dinner for one night. The dinners prepared by the counselors ranged from pasta to gulyás and included green salads and desserts - among them pie and homemade cookies. The dinner prepared by Mr. Endre Csornán and his helpers from William Penn was a wonderful treat of chicken paprikas and dumplings. What a blessing it was to be ministered to with such love! A special mention should also be made about a visit to the Bethlen Home. Mid-week all of us boarded a bus to minister to the residents of the Bethlen Home. This trip is a highlight of every year’s Youth Camp! As always, the campers loved being around the residents and the residents were so overjoyed to see all the young faces. And again as always, the Bethlen Home served us a wonderful lunch - but truly the most wonderful part of the day was the time the young people spent with the residents. Camp 2009 is now a memory. Next year’s camp is already in the planning stages for July 18-24, 2010. One final note: God in His great mercy and grace heard the pleas of the counselors back in March - He honored our petitions and our willingness to tighten our belts to work even harder to enable us to make camp this year a reality. Not only were we able to pay this year’s camp bills in full but He also blessed us with a little in reserve for next year. On behalf of everyone at camp, we extend a special THANK YOU! to all those who prayed, cooked or supported camp financially or in any other way. The fruits of your gifts are eternal! May God now increase our bounty in every way, including attendance, in the future. In His Service, Kathy Smith Youth Camp 2009 Serious fun at Camp 2009
