10 Spring Meeting of the Lakeside Classis CALVIN SYNOD HERALD The Spring Meeting of the Lakeside Classis of the Calvin Synod Conference UCC was held February 7, 2009 at the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Walton Hills, Ohio. The Pastor of the hosting Congregation, Rev. Csaba Krasznai delivered the message of “Unity” during the opening worship service based on Philippians 2:1-4. Our get-well prayers were offered for and concerns expressed because of the hospitalization of the Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi. At the meeting, four Congregations - the Hungarian Reformed Churches of Lorain, Fairport Harbor, Cleveland, and Walton Hills - were represented by delegates and representatives. Rev. Csaba Krasznai, Dean of the Lakeside Classis Bishop Koloman K. Ludwig at the Podium Meeting Attendees Pulpits are vacant in the churches of Dayton & Columbus. The Synod’s church in Buffalo, NY is doing well. The Lakeside Classis took action to offer help to these sister churches by sending their lay representatives to deliver messages of encouragement and a donation. Rt. Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig, in his State of the Calvin Synod message encouraged us to support each other as churches, as well as the Fraternities of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, and the William Penn Association. The Rev. Imre A. Bertalan in his State of the Bethlen Communities report delivered good news of Four Years of Growth and Development, sharing with us the positive achievements of the past, the exceptional service the Bethlen Communities provide in the Ligonier, PA area today, and plans for the future. Rev. Bertalan also shared the thought-provoking topic of Our Purpose Driven Churches, and the characteristics of Living vs. Dying Churches. During the congregational sharing time, lay delegates reported on the events of the individual churches since the previous (Fall) Meeting. Two guest Ministers, The Rev's Gábor Nitsch and Albert Kovács were also in attendance. God willing, the 2009 Fall meeting of the Lakeside Classis will be held on October 24, 2009 hosted by Fairport Harbor. God be with you till we meet again! Rev. Zoltán S.
