Dr. Ervin Betts and church member Gail Deaver, an English teacher, decided several months prior, that their church should offer English classes to the group of immigrant day laborers they passed by each Sunday on their way to Worship. With that goal in mind, Mrs. Deaver and Rev. Betts both completed a Community College course for teaching English as a second language. The English they teach to the students is the type of English that is required to work and get through everyday life. At Christmas, the students learned Christmas Carols - in English of course - that helped them remember English phrases. Rev. Betts says that as former immigrants or descendants themselves, the Norwalk Congregation has become so interested in helping new immigrants that they also held a Voter Registration Drive - and that in the fűmre they may also hold Citizenship Classes. The Church and their English Language Ministry was featured in the local Norwalk Paper: www.thehour.com/storv/461913 DECEMBER 28: The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Manassas, VA conducted a Communion Preparatory Service.
