CONGREGATIONAL NEWS To the Ministers and Congregations of Calvin Synod: Dear Friends: I bring greetings to each of you. My best wishes for a prosperous and successful year in your congregation. I am including three issues in this letter of importance to your congregations. 1. This past year at our Annual Meeting a “Layperson’s Workshop” was held to deal with difficulties in congregations, how to identify and address them, and resources available to deal with them. The workshop was well-received, and there were requests that similar workshops be presented throughout the year. How has your congregation taken advantage of the resources and information presented in the workshop? 2. Also addressed in the workshop was “church growth” and resources to assist in strengthening the church in areas of identity and membership involvement. The delegates to the Annual Meeting voted that every congregation in Calvin Synod could receive a grant of $2,000 (two-thousand dollars) to assist them with evangelism and “church growth.” The concept is that every congregation should have resources available for evangelism, resulting in “church growth,” without having to use their limited income. Has your congregation applied for the grant to begin growing your membership? 3. In order that you be able to make plans for our Annual Meeting, I am reminding you that the meeting this year will again be in Somerset, Pennsylvania, beginning with a Service of Worship the morning of Tuesday, May 20, and ending the morning of Friday, May 23. More information will be coming concerning the schedules and program. I hope to be receiving applications for the $2,000 from each of you to build your congregation! Your fellow servant in Christ, Rt. Rev. Koloman Karl Ludwig, Bishop “Faith Comes By Hearing” On-Line Program Faith Comes By Hearing has a program that lets your church listen to the New Testament in 40 days without cost. This can be a wonderful project to do as a church for a Lenten discipline. They do ask for a love offering, but 100% goes to creating recordings for languages that need these tools.
