The Call to Our Churches “You have made known to me the paths of life: you will fill me with joy in your presence. ” (Acts 2:28) It was with these words that Peter addressed the crowds on that first Pentecost Day. Something miraculous had happened - he and the other disciples had been touched with the Holy Spirit, and Peter was led to address the crowds that had gathered with them. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter was renewed in his determination to follow and serve his Lord, whom he had come to love. Peter had a new vision for what lie ahead in the future for the world, for the people called by God. It was a vision of tremendous change, a vision of new relationship between God and His people, it was a vision of wonder. For almost two thousand years this has been both the gift and challenge we have inherited. It has been a gift, because it has opened a tremendous new relationship for each of us as we are privileged not only to walk in the paths of the Lord, but also we are assured that when we follow His word, He accompanies us every moment of our lives. He is not only our constant companion, He is our strength, our place of sanctuary, our confidant with whom we can share all our difficulties. Through Christ we have realized the words of David in the Twenty Third Psalm, when he declares: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil. My cup runneth over.” This is a wonderful assurance in life for each of us. But it is also a challenge. The challenge was given us by Christ
