IN MEMÓRIÁM

The Right Reverend Dr. Desmond Parragh, passed away at his home on February 14, 2006.

He was bom October 9, 1913, in Budapest, Hungary to parents Dezső and Etelka (Paray) Parragh. Desmond studied at the University of Strausburg in France followed by degrees from Princeton University and Union Theological Seminary. He received his Doctorate at the Chicago Theological Seminary in 1987. He served churches in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and prior to his retirement, he pastored the Norridge United Church of Christ, Norridge Illinois for 50 years, holding services in Hungarian and English. For a number of years, he also taught Hungarian and Psychology at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. He was very influential in the Calvin Synod having held various official positions and then being elected Bishop. He was also President of the Western Classis of the Synod, overseeing churches in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.
