CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 9 Hungarian Reformed Church of Lorain Welcomes New Pastor The Hungarian Reformed Church of Lorain Ohio is very grateful to have a full-time spiritual leader in Rev. Peter Toth. He joined our congregation on September 11th and has immersed himself in our church life. On his very first Sunday, He got to meet out children and their families at the Rally Day Picnic. He played games with the children and enjoyed fellowship with their parents. Immediately after the picnic, he net another set of congregation members at the Men?s Brotherhood Annual Bacon Fry. Bible study has been added to the Caring Circle meetings, Youth Fellowship has set up regular meetings and he has met with the Sunday School Staff for regular cooperation and curriculum planning. Along with church elders, he has started a visitation program with our sick and shut in members and will continue with visitation to all congregation members. Beside all the church activities, he is being introduced to our larger Hungarian community, participating in Nite in Budapest, St. Ladislaus Catholic Church’s 100th Anniversary, the 50th Anniversary of Rev. Frank Juhasz Shepherd’s Ordination and the upcoming Harvest Ball. He will be a speaker at the 1956 Revolution Commemorative Service on October 23rd. His family recently joined us, and we look forward to establishing a warm and rewarding friendship with them all. Look for more good news from our congregation as our relationship with our new pastor becomes stronger and deeper with our commitment to God. Sue Fortner Hungarian Reformed Church Lorain, Ohio are asking those who cannot attend, to please consider a generous donation. Donation checks, with Mission on the memo area, can be sent to our church address: First Hungarian Reformed Church of Los Angeles, 12717 York Ave., Hawthorne, CA 90250. We are hoping to collect as much as we can, and hope others will join our Congregation in helping us help these unfortunate families who must now rebuild their entire lives. Tünde Garai, Chief Elder First Hungarian Reformed Church of Los Angeles TRAC 2005 Report Dear Christian Friends: Another set of summer visits has been completed, and it is now time to assess them and plan for the activities of a new season. The visits went very well and as usual, it has added a little more depth to our understanding of the situation in Transylvania. Although we have been going there now for more than fifteen years, the culture and the history of that country is very different from our own, and with modem influences setting in, it is constantly changing. Every visit brings with it new challenges, which were not understood before. But more importantly, it builds a stronger bond of friendship which is so important for a truly spiritual relationship. As we come to know each other better, we more freely share the true nature of our convictions and our problems, and come to sense the depth of our relationship to God. It is this, after all, that constitutes the essence of spiritual life and true Christianity. Our regular stable programs, the care for Diaspora churches in the villages, medical care for those villages without other available attention, and the homeless people in the city, are going very well, as the students provide for them on a regular basis. The only problem is that they do not have their cost. A steady funding is necessary to keep them going, especially as the European Union causes the cost of gas, food and medicine to go up regularly. We also have the two additional causes which have gradually entered our sphere of concern: One is the orphanage at Marosbogát (Bogota). They care for 25 children. Having been given a set of used baking equipment for a commercial bakery, their hope is that once the building is completed, this may help them to support the orphanage, as well as giving the children work experience for adult life. To help collect funds for them to complete this building is one of our additional goals. The other is the Christian School at Felor, which will provide a complete Christian education for a whole community of villages. The building is progressing nicely, but one more hurdle lies ahead. They will need doors and windows for the whole building. Next summer, we are planning a work crew to go over to help them. It would be nice if they could help install these and possibly begin their school in the following year. Above all, we would like to express our appreciation for all those who have provided prayers and support for these projects thus far. In the service of Christ and His church, Rev. Bernard J.
