CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 5 Seasons of Giving Never End “ You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. ” 2 Cor. 9:11 At Bethlen Communities, we have been so blessed with friends and supporters that we are always looking for ways to give back, especially to those in need. Upcoming Fundraisers Operation Christmas Child FromNovember 1 to November 21, Bethlen Home and Ligonier Gardens will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse. Items include small toys, crayons, books, school supplies, and toiletries. The items will be divided by age and gender and placed in a Christmas-wrapped shoebox. These boxes are sent to children all over the world. Presents for Patients 2005 Bethlen Home and Ligonier Gardens are preparing for our most important fundraiser of the season: “Presents for Patients.” Anyone interested in helping can donate $25.00 to the Presents for Patients fund. This will sponsor one of our residents, who will receive a present at Christmas, purchased and wrapped by our Activity staff. Each gift idea will be taken directly from the [5] 2 Chronicles 31:5-6 AV “5 And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of com, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly. 6 And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.” [6] (Amos 4:4 AV) “Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:” (Malachi 3:8-10 AV) “8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” [7] 1 Corinthians 9:13-14 AV “13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.” [8] This first paragraph is a paraphrase of Easton’s Bible Dictionary entry for tithe. Scriptures provided are from the 1769 AV (Authorized Version). [9] 2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. [10] Mark 12:42 AV “And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing..” [11] “ Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.” (Malachi 3:8 AV) resident’s personal wish list. Please visit our Web site, www.bethlen.com, where you can download the sponsorship form in the “Get Involved” section of the site. Recent Fundraisers Sight Night With generous donations from staff and members of the community, like the Ligonier YMCA, we collected more than 85 old eyeglasses for Sight Night. Sight Night is part of a national collection drive sponsored by the LensCrafters Foundation in conjunction with Lions Clubs International. Eyeglasses will be recycled and hand-delivered to people in developing countries. Memory Walk Especially with Bethlen Home’s new Alzheimer/Dementia unit, we try to offer support to related programs, such as the Alzheimer Association’s Memory Walk. Several staff participated in the walk itself, while Bethlen Communities as a whole raised $1,000.00. Operation Get Involved Ligonier Gardens and Bethlen Home staff donated 10 boxes of items to Volunteer Firefighters for relief efforts in the Picayune and Long Beach, Mississippi regions. Operation Gulf Coast Bethlen Home Certified Nursing Assistant, Tanya Grote, volunteered for the American Red Cross’ Gulf Coast relief efforts. The mission trip lasted for three weeks. Money was raised to help support Ms. Grote. On behalf of the residents and staff at Bethlen Communities, we wish all the Calvin Synod congregations a blessed Christmas season. Thank you, sincerely, for your support this past year.
