Consistories and churches need to know of several actions which were passed at the last session, and some of these are highlighted here. Since the Minutes have not been distributed and reports of several committees are unavailable, the texts of the following are not official. Church and Ministry Committee’s recommendation was passed, that “Consistories and pastors should educate their congregation to support benevolent ministries at home and abroad.” Its call for a new “Home Missions” fund was supported by the Finance and Budget Committee, which called on churches to contribute an additional one percent of their income above their assessments. The Stewardship and Welfare Committee responded with a call for the Calvin Synod to “focus their attention intensively to Home Missions”, which was passed, as was another suggestion that “each church hold two ‘Home Mission’ Sundays during Lent”, and send it to the Synod by Easter. The Recommendations Committee called upon the Synod’s churches to continue to participate in the spiritual rebuilding of the post-Communist Magyar Reformed church life. It asked that, “Calvin Synod shall join in partnership of the Debrecen Reformed College Chaplaincy project with a $5,000.00 per year financial support for the next three years, with moral encouragement and prayerful backing.” The motion passed. It was also agreed that “Calvin Synod shall declare the Hungarian Reformed Church of Villany as our mission project, with a specific amount of donation (determined by the Conference Council) and by encouraging our churches to remember our humble beginnings, as we started to build our churches in the United States, and the many generous helping brethren who came to our aid. We further encourage our congregations to help this ‘Budding new rose’ of our Hungary in Reformed faith with their donations.” CLASSES MEETINGS: Western Classis: Kalamazoo, MI - April 8. □oo ANNIVERSARIES: Pittsburgh, PA - 110th Anniversary - April 8. _________________________mo__________________________ CALVIN SYNOD MEETING HOLIDAY INN, CLEVELAND, OH - MAY 23-26. ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF CALVIN SYNOD HERALD - REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA WILL BE OBSERVED AT OUR SYNOD MEETING. Youth and Camps Voicing its concern that pastor be available to work with youth, to travel with them for youth activities and as counselors and instructors, and not count against personal time, the Youth Committee made three recommendations, agreed to by the delegates: (1) Financially support those who want to go to Camp from your or other congregations. (2) Allow your ministers to assist with youth programs. (3) ALL churches in the Calvin Synod actively encourage the youth of their congregations to attend the Summer Camp and other youth activities during the year. The Synod elected the Rev. Zoltán S. Sutto to be the Camp Director, and it was held from August 1-7 last year in Laurelville, PA, in the western hill country. Ministers The need for ministers to keep abreast of the changing times, as required of professionals in other fields, led to a recommendation by Church and Ministry Committe on Continuing Education: “Every church should encourage its minister to take two weeks of study on leave from the local church OFFICIAL COMMUNICATIONS VACANCIES: Beaver Falls, PA Columbus, OH Gary, IN Kalamazoo, MI Wallingford, CT If interested: Call the Bishop!!! mo
