Dr. Francis Vitéz and Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó Bishop Medgyesi’s solemn Ordination was held on October 11, Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the Fairport, Ohio church and was followed by a Banquet at 6:00 p.m. at the La Malta Party Center, 5783 Heisley Rd. in Mentor, OH. The Bishop’s Ordination and Installation was a most unique and solemn event, with ancient Hungarian traditional liturgy in the life of the Synod’s constituting congregations. This festive occasion in our present history will long be remebered by all those who attended. Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi is now ordained and installed as the 16th Chiel-Executive and 8th Bishop of our Calvin Synod. His first term is from 1998 to 2001, in case of his reelection for a second term in 2001 (which is not doubted, God willing). He will be the first Chief-Executive who might serve 6 years in succession in this highest office in our history. Ad multos Annos! The Fall Meeting of Our Lakeside Classis - Our bishop called the Fall Meeting of our Lakeside Classis for October 5, Monday in our Dayton, Ohio church. This meeting elected the new Dean in replacing Rev. István Nyeste, whose tragic accident with an unexpected turn made the office vacant. Rev. Dr. Szabolcs Kálmán was elected by unanimous vote as dean of the Lakeside classis. He is most worthy for this leading position and will - without any doubt - fulfill the duties with excellent results. Our sincerest congratulations go to him and the Cleveland West Side congregation. God's speed to Lakeside Classis with the new dean. West Side church is the cradle of our Magyar Calvin Synod. The Central Classis Meeting was held on November 7,1998 in our Pittsburgh, PA church. The meditation was given by Mrs. Ilona Komjáthy of the local church. The Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi, bishop, gave his guidance for the future of the Central Classis. ana All church and church school contributions to Hungary and it succession states should be channelled through our Synod treasurer. Thus, both the local congregation and the Synod will receive well-deserved recognition for the mission gift. We have done it this way in the past for our grand PEMCO heart-lung machines donation project to Hungary and all various projects to churches overseas throughout scores of years.
