The UCC representatives were Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Sherry, President, and Rt. Rev. Zoltán D. Szűcs. □□□ The Conference for Presbyters and Church Workers for our Hungarian Reformed churches in the Ohio District area was held at the Fairport Harbor, Ohio church on Sunday, September 28, 1997. The topic was “Sunday School in Our Churches”. New officers were elected. President: Janet Vegh; Vice President: Grace Shupp; Treasurer: Mary Fuleki. The installation was conducted by the Synod’s Bishop Em. □□□ On September 28th, the Perth Amboy, NJ church celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Francis Vitéz’s ordination to the Holy Ministry, with formal and dignified festivities. A most impressive 50th Anniversary Celebration Program book was published for the occasion, prepared by the bishop’s children. An artistic commemorative souvenir booklet contains the elevating story of his 50 years in the Holy Ministry with many pictures as living illustrations of a legendary life. The love of the Perth Amboy Church was exemplified by an outpouring of all the hearts toward the beloved pastor, his admired wife Vilma and their family! ouu The Lakeside Classis held its Fall Meeting on October 13th at Cleveland’s First Church in Walton Hills, Ohio. On the opening Divine Service the Rev. István Geczy, the new pastor, delivered the Sermon. Holy Communion was administered by the Bishop Em. A very rich and fruitful meeting was presided by the Rev. István Nyeste, Dean. The Heritage Church in Flint, Ml observed their 80th Anniversary on October 25. The celebration was held in the beautiful new church at its new location with formal dignity and was followed by a great banquet. The Rev. Zoltán Sutto, pastor, and Tibor Nagy, lay leader, deserve congratulations for the admirable work done by them and their respective wives. The former Flint church, now in Davison Township, is a loyal congregation, worthy for praise. It is indeed a “Church in the Reformed Tradition” “Tradition is the Living Faith of the Dead - Traditionalism is the Dead Faith of the Living. Here it is indeed - a living faith! □□□ The Hungarian Reformed Church in Lorain, Ohio observed its 95th Anniversary on November 9th. It was a great day to be remembered by those present for many years to come. The Former-Bishop Right Rev. Zoltán D. Szucs and General Chairman Julius A. Pongracz, were in charge of a never-to-be-forgotten occasion of memorialization. The theme of the Celebration was Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. The congregation is a hard-working group in our midst. OQQ The thirty-eighth Hungarian Protestant Ball was held on the 14th of November at the Wayne Manor, Wayne, New Jersey. The traditional Opening Ceremony with the Presentation of Debutantes was held. Scholarships were presented. Piroska Hunyadi was the Co-ordinator of the traditional ceremony.
