This is the only united activity between the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the Calvin Synod Conference and the United Church of Christ. The Conference was held at the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center in Mount Pleasant, PA. The hard-working camp directors of the successful camp were Rev. István Nyeste from the Calvin Synod and Priscilla Hunyady from the Hungarian Reformed Church of Ameri-ca. (See picture on page 3). □□□ August 4 and August 11 were the grand Sundays of Special Remembrance and Intercession. The Synod approached all congregations to make the second mile by offering remembrances and special prayers at the actual time when representatives of magyar Reformed churches from all over the world gathered together in parts of Transylvania and Hungary for sessions of the III. World Convention in this historical year of the millecentanarium in creating a Nation 1100 years ago in the Carpathian Basin. Special collections were planned for the purpose of helping the congregations of our Household of Faith struggling against oppressions in the Succession States around the Motherland. The response from all congregations of the Synod was admirable. □CO Our Bishop's 50th Ordination Anniversary Our Synod's beloved bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, was ordained into the holy ministry on September 17, 1946. A heartwarming celebration was planned for October 20, 1996, Sunday, by his loyal congregation in Perth Amboy, N.J. The Calvin Synod and all its congregations unanimously sharing in the joy of the Golden Anniversary in the service of the Lord, which he performed throughout five decades of exemplary dedication in our Synod and outside of our Synod, even in the global mission to our Magyar churches all over the world. Unfortunately, due to the unexpected heart-attack of the bishop's wife, Vilma, the celebration had to be postponed to a later date not yet set. Mrs. Vitéz is back home from the hospital and is gradually recovering from the serious siege. Our entire Synodical family has been praying for her complete recovery. God is great and God is good! Our trust is in His mighty power! □□□ The Traditional Around Labor Day Days of Togetherness This year, Labor Day came on Monday, September 2nd. The Presbyter's Association met on Sunday, September 1st. On Monday, Labor Day, they had a combined Worship Service in the morning, together with the Ministerial Association, concluding the Service with Holy Communion in the Bethlen Chapel on the hill. The Ministerial Association meeting continued into the next day. The picture of the attendants of both meetings is on page 3 of this Issue. □□□ 100th Anniversary Celebration of the HRFA The opening ceremonies marking the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America was held on Sunday, September 15, 1996 at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Trenton, New Jersey, followed by a banquet at Beky Hall in the school building. □□□ The 35th Quadrennial Convention of the Reformed Federation of America was held at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick Hotel, N.J., September 16 through 19, 1996 with great success. □□□ September 29th was the date for the Ohio District's Presbyters and Church- Workers Conference. It was held at the Columbus church. □CO The First Hungarian Reformed Classis observed its 100th Anniversary on October 27,1996. This Classis was the Eastern Classis of the Calvin Synod. This was the first organized Hungarian Reformed Church group outside Hungary.
