CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 2 AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAP)A THE COVER PAGE OF THIS ISSUE illustrates an immortal message in most turbulent times from "The Treasure Chest". Photo taken by American Air- Lines somewhere around the world. Toward the end of the former 19th Century a WORLD PEACE JUBILEE was held in the City of Boston on the American shore. (On June 26, 1872.) The greatest composer of waltzes, Johann Strauss was brought over from Vienna to conduct in person his own 'Jubilee Waltz1 at the world-wide celebration of'permanent1 World-Peace. It was a spectacular performance. He conducted a chorus of 20,000, with 100 sub-conductors under his direction. It was a great salute to America, the eternal peace-maker of the world. The special arrangement of the 'Start-spangled Banner' in the Jubilee composition brought tremendous delight to the enraptured huge crowd. The electrified audience felt WORLD PEACE finally arrived and will forever stay! Unfortunately not so! Soon after our Century, the 20th arrived. Turned out to be the Century of wholesale slaughter. In short four more years the 21st will arrive and our 20th will enter into the book of World History as the bloodiest of all: the Century of massacre and bloodbath. In this 20th Century World War I. killed 12 million, World War II. killed 51 million. The so called 'Socialistic Revolution' (Communism) killed 95 million. Bosnian war 'til today killed 300,000, Vacant pulpits Cleveland, OH - First (Walton Hills) Bridgeport, CT S. How timely is Jeremiah's cry?" Peace, Peace - they say -, when there is no PEACE! (Jeremiah 614) And there will be no real PEACE on earth until mankind will turn its face toward the real "KING OF PEACE!" The solemn service began at 4:00 p.m. The Dedication Banquet was held on the day before, Saturday, April 27th at 4:00 p.m. This is the fourth temple built by the congregation, (now at the new Walton Hills location.) The building pastor, Rev. Frank Endrei, announced his retirement for July 1, 1996. Everyone had hoped he might stay on for a while to enjoy the beauty of the new sanctuary that he himself had built. History repeated itself in the long 105 year life of our First Church. The very first minister Rev. Gusztáv Jurányi, who organized the first church on this side of the ocean, resigned and returned to Hungary soon after the church started its life on the shore of Lake Erie. The Solemn Dedication Service of this beautiful new Sanctuary for God's Glory and the purpose of the proclamation of the Gospel was a unique historical event with the participation of our bishop, our bishop Em., local pastor and many neighboring ministers. A magnificent Dedication Album will be the everlasting Memorial prepared by Betty Rose Galgány and Sonja Pastor, printed by Liberty Media.
