CALVIN SYNOD HERALD REFOMATÜSOK LAPJA- 5 -Calvin Synod Mews Annual Fall Meetings in Ligonier, Pa. On September 5th & 6th, the 47th annual meeting of the American-Hungarian Reformed Presbyters' Association was held in Ligonier, Pa. About 75 were in attendance, representing 29 churches, including the Bethlen Home. At the Ministerial Association Meeting, Rev. Alexander Forró presided, on September 6, Monday, there was a joint worship service held at 11:00 a.m. The Holy Communion was administered. A memorial prayer was said for the Rev. Géza Soós, on the fortieth anniversary of his tragic death at the same location in the Ligonier chapel. After the service, a wreath was placed on his Ligonier grave. The election of new officers and their installation was on this year's agenda. The new officers elected and installed were: Rev. Ferenc Endrei, president; Joseph Keresztury, associate president from Canada; Rev. Dr. Anthony Szilágyi, vice president; Rev. Joseph Vásárhelyi, secretary; Rev. Louis Megyesi, treasurer. □□□ September 8, 1993, the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home held its annual meeting. A new bylaw was adopted changing the name of the of the Board of Manager into "Executive Committee", and the name of the administrator was changed into "Executive Director". The Bethlen Almanac will be published annually, starting in December, 1994, as a bilingual annual Almanac. The publication date will be the beginning of the Advent season each year. □□□ The Rt. Reverend Dr. Francis Vitéz was solemnly installed as our new Bishop. September 19, 1993, the New Bishop 's Solemnization oflnstatlatiorwas held in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. The Calvin Synod, Conference of the United Church of Christ, elected The Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitézas its new Bishop on May 14,1993 at is 55th Annual Meeting. At the close of that meeting, he and the new officers of the Synod were sworn in. In accordance with the practice of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Service of Solemnization of Installation was held on September 19th at 4 p.m. in Perth Amboy at the Bishop's church. Sermons were preached by the Rt. Rev. Stephen Szabó, Bishop Emeritus of the Synod and Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Sherry, president of the United Church of Christ. The official installation was conducted by the Rt. Rev. Zoltán Szűcs, former bishop. The Bible and Seal presentation was done by the Rev. Dr. Joseph Piri, General Presbyter Em. A festive banquet followed the service at Landmark Inn. The solemnity was done in a style never to be forgotten! He is now our 7th Bishop, and the 15th Chief Executive of our Synod in the course of the past 55 years. □□□ The Central Classis of the Calvin Synod held its fall meeting on Sunday, September 19,1993 in the Homestead Church. The local pulpit supply, Robert Kennedy, conducted the opening devotions. Dr. Aladár Komjáthy of the Pittsburgh church delivered the lecture entitled "The Past, Present and the Future of the Central Classis." He also welcomed the Beaver Falls church, which recently joined the Calvin Synod, and was represented for the first time at the Classis meeting by a three member delegation. The installation of Bishop Vitéz was also remembered in the prayers of the meeting. Dr. Komjáthy also welcomed the Rev. Julius Paál who returned to his home Classis after a stay of 25 years in California. The business meeting was conducted by the Classis Presbyter William Horosz. The new officers elected are as follows: Dean: Dr. Komjáthy, Classis Presbyter: William Horosz of Homestead, Secretary: Rev. Harry Hull of Johnstown, Treasurer: Wilburn Roby, Jr. of Pittsburgh. All elected officers took the solemn oath of office. It was resolved that the regular annual visitations of the dean accompanied by the other officers will be resumed. Each congregation will be visited at least once. For cooperation and deepening our spiritual unity the Classis will seek the fellowship of all neighboring Hungarian Reformed Churches. A very delicious meal prepared by the host church followed this promising meeting. □□□ The fall meeting of the Lakeside Classis, Calvin Synod, was held on October 18 at the Hungarian Evangelical Reformed Church, 4457 Old Troy Pike, Dayton, OH. The meeting started at 1:30 p.m. following the noon meal at the local church. There was a nice turnout of people attending from all congregations. □□□ HAPPY ANNIVERSARY - We wish the Homestead Congregations a Happy 90th Anniversary. May God bless your church. An anniversary banquet was held on October 24th attheDuquesne country Club. □□□ CONGRATULATIONS - to the Beaver Falls Church, which recently joined the Calvin Synod. A Celebration Service was held on October 30th at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Vitéz preached the sermon. □ □□ The Rev. Dr. Aladár Komjáthy was elected to be the new pastor of our church in Pittsburgh, PA. He formerly served our Passaic, N.J. church and the Hungarian Reformed Church in Montreal, Canada. His return to the service in our Synod is greatly welcomed. May God give his blessing unto him and his people in the Pittsburgh congregation. His formal installation by the Synod took place in the Pittsburgh church on Reformation Sunday, October 31, 1993 at 4:00 p.m. The installation was performed by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, bishop. At 6:00 p.m., a gala banquet followed the traditional ceremonial event. □□□ Our former bishop on the Executive Council of the U.C.C., the Rt. Rev. Zoltán D. Szűcs, was placed on the highest governing body of the National Church. It is a great honor with high responsibilities. One of ourformer bishops, Dr. John Bütösi, served on the same governing body. □□□ South Norwalk, CT church elected Attila Szemesi as interim pastor, who already commenced his pastorate. He has been in Lorain, Ohio. The bishop of our sister Church in wartorn former Yugoslavia extended his stay in America. Our Synod is looking forward for bright years in the life of that congregation under his leadership.
