CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 7 -REFOMÁTÜSOK LA PIA where incurable Serbian nationalism is still in the state of enraging. It is most regrettable that the United States of America still ignores the spectrum of true nationality rights, and instead of viewing the causes and realistic consequences, looks still at the raging ethnic struggles from the square of "human rights", when the whole problem is centered in one nationality's insane phantasm of "Great Serbia" continued now under the slogan of "ethnic cleansing" by inflamed Serbians. As it was feared by many, the present Balkan problems ignited the old vicious struggles of that region (which now are even more bitter than ever before.) All that being the product of the foregone two World Wars ending in the "peace treaty" dictates, which were to fulfill the unrealistic aspirations of the same succession-states concerned. At the collapse of Communism, all Eastern and Central European nations entered into a transition stage and all expected to rebuild with American help from the immense flow of American dollars. Since all the promised and expected assistance proved to be insufficient, now they all start realizing one by one that they had been dealt with unfairly and they place all the blame on the superpower America. From the present pseudo-democratic leadership, only a radical change to a real and true democracy can bring complete fulfillment. If that will not come, it is possible that the God-given multitude will take into hand the wheel of "Fortuna's Wagon." That might not be a bloodless revolution, God forbid! The plan of Mastricht and the American plan are identical in one aspect: not to have a continuation of strictly dividing national borders, therefore, the removal of dividing borderlines among nations. Former Yugoslavia created such an enormous problem to all Europeans - and even more so - to America, that they are still at a loss in finding a reasonable soution for a long time to come. The antagonism of national fractions is unremovable. The Serbian brutalities show the bitter fact that we are much too far from the dream of a United Europe. The fall of Czechoslovakia proves the weakness of any kind of Pan-Slavism. Benevolent nations did not prove to be permanent entities. The 21 st century, just a handshake away, will open grand, new perspectives for all mankind all over the globe. Russia, the grand protector of Islam, will embrace Iran with a much firmer devotion and with more intimate contacts with the Islamic nations, will bring to the world more discords than the rest of the world will be able to handle. The enormous nuclear weaponry of the former Soviet states will land into the hands of nuclear mafias, mostly in the lands of the Middle and Far East. The consequences are unpredictable and tremendously fearful. China will depart from the Communistic system and will form itself to be a most formidible commercial and trade power in the world. In the Middle East, the Persian Gulfs oil and the nation of Israel will develop a new and yet more ferocious crisis in the world. The massacres on the Balkan peninsula - with its Islamic complications - will produce many more atrocities, especially because the U.S. - the prime defender of human rights - will refuse to enter with military might to settle the powder keg. Serbian bandits might inflame the world again and bring in the horrible years of World War III. The idealistic concept of "human rights" will simply not find a home in the peninsula of the Byzantine culture and a living form of human existence! The natural borderlines of the Danube and Dráva rivers was a Godcreated defense, which will have to be reconstructed once again. If the Serbians strongly demand Kossova-Methois, where the people are 90% Albanian, how much more rights do the Hungarians have to demnad from the former southern section (délvidék). That portion of Hungary that was given to the Serbs as a prize for their ignomious action of starting the devastating World War I. The true and real war criminals were Britain, in pursuit of stopping the German expansion; France, which wanted to regain Elzass-Lotharingia; Russia, endevoring to gain exit to the Mediterranean and acquire hegemony over the Balkans. The Austro-Hungarian monarchy was in the way. The recently passed months definitely prove to all those who have eyes to see, that the peace dictates of Versailles and Trianon were unrealistic products of prejudice and fanatical minds. Their long-delayed revision is now at hand. If we hesitate to realize the logical need to re-draw the wrongly manufactured national borders, then the hopelessness of a better future for all mankind rightfully will have to be blamed on us. These re-drawings of new borders - though - cannot be executed on the Helsinki fictional conceptions. There is no possibility for the creation of a happier world with the inclusion of th eSerbians, who are unable to be partners in creating an equal co-existence with others. The governing powers of demoratic, new Hungary will have to be prepared politically as well as militarily for vehement and loud counter-actions. The time has arrived when it is our duty to concentrate on regaining our own magyars tom away from us in the number of many millions. The present Hungarian government will have to use utmost diplomacy if permanent co-existence of nations and nationalities is to be insured and perpetuated. They will have to understand - no matter how unpleasant a duty it is - that the demand of revision will have to come from them. Let us learn our lesson from the past, let us make the possibilities of the present workable, and work with stem faith for the better, more beautiful and just magyar future. I close with Reményik's immortal words: "Ahogy Lehet!" (Whichever way it is possible!) Tie, Christian Disarwr in Trans^ania Some 30 pastors in Romania receive the Christian Observer. Pastor Károly Virág was among those visited by Rev. Mr. Posta and Rev. Mr. Bemie Woudenberg on their last tour of Romania in the interest of the Committee fro the Relief of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Romania. Mr. Posta is in Romania at the present on behalf of the committee developing contacts for American farmers and businessmen who would like to work with Reformed businessmen like those described by Pastor Virág. Editor's Note: Twice as many copies of our Herald go to ministers in Transylvania at the present, and the same number to the other succession states. In addition to that, c. 200 copies go to Hungary, Canada, South America and Australia. A
