CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 5 -REFOMÁTÜSOK LAPJA Greetings From Our New Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz Calvin Synod, a part of our Hungarian Reformed church life, is our spiritual home, a fortress and bulwark, in which we live and move and have our being. It is a cherished treasure from our forefathers and we strive to preserve it. We live our lives in the Synod on several different levels. First, our membership consists of our pioneer fathers who organized our congregations. They brought us zeal, courage and the willingness to establish themselves and to create out of nothing a home and solid foundation. Our second group brought an educated mind and willingness to persevere. Our third group consists of well-trained and educated craftsmen and scientists. Our second, third and fourth generation people enjoyed all the blessings of American life and reached ot the sky. We have a church membership of which we can be proud. We have excellent clergy in our Synod. A large percentage of our ministers, former graduate students in many different Seminaries and Universities, are well-trained. Every two years, our Synod holds and election of officers. In the name of our newly-elected officers, I give thanks to the Lord for the opportunity to serve Him and you. I pray that the almighty Lord will be with us with His Holy Spirit. I thank you for electing us to be the leaders of the Synod. I ask that with your vision, faith, strength and perseverance, as well as with your financial support, you stand behind us. The Calvin Synod is the eldest daughter of the mother church, and thus cares for her own dispersed sisters and brothers all over the world and also helps the mother church and our brethren severed by the Treaty of Trianon. Let our service together be a sacrificial sowing of seeds in the hope of a blessed and rich harvest for the benefit of our Synod and our relatives in faith. After the Lord Himself, we are their only help and hope. Come, everyone of you, let us be workers in the vineyard of the Lord while there is still the light of day. Let us call upon Him for guidance and help so that we would feel and know that we had a Synod, we are still active and there will forever be a Calvin Synod. Let us always remember this motto and expression of hope: "If God is for us, who is against us?" (Romans 8:31). K®y Reformation Documents Rock In Print Presbyterian Heritage Publications has re-set the type for a set of major Reformation era documents. Among these are The Geneva Book of Order composed for the English Congregation at Geneva under John Knox in 1556. This is the same congregation which produced the beloved Geneva Bible. Also available are the Scottish Confession of Faith (1560) and the First and Second Books of Discipline along with the Calderwood preface from the 1621 edition. They are sister publications - with the exact same doctrines - as our own Heidelgerg Cathecism and II. Helvetic Confession. Our own two are readily available through our pastors of all congregations and should be placed into the hands of our children! ( It's Raining Too Hard It 's raining too hard to go out for flowers so we will set the table with these yellow lemons glazed with sun, with orange globes, plus green leaves of lettuces for a salad, bright with oils from California and Greece sprinkled with warm Syrian spice. It's raining outside but inside our table is lit with all kinds of light.
