CALVIN SYNOD HERALD — 8 — REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA “Blow the Trumpet in Zion, and Sound an Alarm in my Holy Mountain" (Joel 2,1.) — In Defense of Bishop László Tőkés — There is a horrible hate campaign carried on by Romanian extremists at present. The safety of Bishop Tőkés of Oradea (Nagyvárad), who two years ago became the great hero of our Age, is the primary concern of all freedom-loving people on the Globe. Bishop Tőkés has asked for protection from the West in his tremendous ordeal in his homeland. His own letter, disclosing all unbelievable details of persecution, has been printed in English translation. It speaks for itself. We should storm our leaders of the Nation to intervene with letters of intercession to compel the Romanian government to guarantee and firmly enforce the minority rights of the Helsinki Accord and stop all harrassments of extreme nationalists in Romania against their own saving hero from the atrocities of the Ceausescu Era in their Land. THE FIRST HUNGARIAN REFORMED CHURCH Cleveland, Ohio The formal dedication of the Social Hall section is set for May 31, Sunday, at 3:30 p.m. “Honor the Past & Build for the Future” The leaders of the First Church believe that the new Walton Hills church location will be more convenient for most of the members and will attract new families more readily. However, until they can sell the church on Buckeye Road, they will use it for Hungarian services, and the Walton Hills church for the English worship services. A number of successful building programs have been carried out in the past in both of the former congregations, merged into one recently, most of them during difficult times: when the members were new immigrants, during World War One, during the great depression, and the Freedom Fight of ’56 after World War Two. Now this generation took the new challenge! Rev. Frank Endrei is the leading pastor. The plan was made by László Bojtos, architect. Phase I (the Social Hall section) is now being completed. Phase II (the Sanctuary) will be added in the near future. In the dedication Ceremony, our bishop, the Rt. Rev. Zoltán D. Sziics will preach the Sermon in English; Dr. Imre Bertalan (president of the Hungarian Reformed Federation) will deliver the Hungarian Sermon; the Pastor Emeritus will utter the Prayer of Consecration. Large delegations of the neighboring sister congregations are expected to worship together with the host congregation.
