CALVIN SYNOD HERALD — 5 — REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA The annual Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp was held during the week of August 12-19, 1990, at the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. There were 67 youth and 23 staff present from the various churches. The theme for this year’s camp was, “God, What Do You Want Me To Do?” It was based on Philipians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Along with this, the following subtopics were formulated earlier in the year in Perth Amboy, N.J. “Hey, God, What’s Up?” was the topic handled by Rev. Charles Limpár of Springdale, PA. He focused on the place of humanity in creation and God’s intent and design for our existence. Next, Rev. Imre A. Bertalan of Allen Park, MI, engaged the youth in the topic of “How Mature Am I”, which was an excercise for self examination coupled with gauging one’s level of response to God’s will. On Wednesday, Rev. Stefan Torok of Perth Amboy, NJ examined the issue “Is This Really Your World?” The youth learned that God wants us to live in the “real” world and not in the fantasies bandied about by the cults of idol worshipping religions and cultures. Rev. Dr. Coralyn Medyesy of Wallingford, CT treated the topic with which all of us have difficulty, “Can I Handle Temptation?” Finally, Rev. Zoltán Szűcs, Bishop of the Calvin Synod, brought the youth to make a decision through the topic of “O.K. God — Now What?”. This year, in lieu of renting 16 mm films as part of the audio-visual presentations, the Youth Camp went ahead and purchased VHS tapes, which will begin a resource library for future use. Those of our church Youth Fellowships which would like to borrow these, need to request them from the Calvin Synod Camp Director. Current topics on hand are: “The Search”, “Stained Images”, and “Fury to Freedom.” Also, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Bukovinsky used a video camera to capture camp life and activities. These were reproduced and made available to the youth at a nominal cost of $7, including shipping. This is a nice way to preserve the history of the Youth Camp. It is also fitting and proper, to thank all those who supported the Youth Camp. Especially those churches which include in their budget the direct support of their youth. For indeed camp costs will certainly escalate from their present $130 per camper, and this only includes the basic room and board. Then there are the various extra treats that need to be covered as well. For this reason we also thank the Hungarian Reformed Federation for budgeting $4,000 annualy toward the support of the Youth Camp, thereby sharing in the work of the church to propogate the gospel of Christ and pass on the traditions of our ancestors to our children. Youth Camp has quite literally become a yearly pilgrimage to both young and young-at-heart alike. We appreciate the help we receive from a dedicated cadre of counselors who share themselves with the youth from year to year. Their unselfish and caring attitude has forged a close relationship between all of us. Truly, the love of Jesus manifests itself when believers seek the glory of God. May He keep us in His love till we meet again.
