The Historic Day was October 12, 1890 when the very first Hungarian Reformed Church Service was held with the celebration of Holy Communion by the Reverend Gustáv Jurányi, the very first minister sent over by the Mother Church to start organizing work among the Hungarian immigrants in the New Land. The First Service was held in the Seventh German Reformed Church of Rev. J. H. C. Roentgen in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. In consenquence Lakeside Classis Meeting The Spring meeting of the Lakeside Classis was held on March 5, 1990, at the Lorain Hungarian Reformed Church, Lorain, Ohio. According to custom, the meeting started at noon with the host church providing the victuals. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó JOINT ISSUE In the year of 1987 leaders of Calvin Synod, U.C.C. and the Hungarian Reformed Church in America made a solemn agreement to combine our two publications twice every year. The Easter Issue and the Christmas Issue to appear jointly. Since then one Joint Issue appeared. Let us hope we will be able to carry on this long overdue Decision! gave the devotion for our spiritual nourishment. The purpose of our meeting was to discuss and formulate overtures and/or recommendations for consideration at the annual meeting of the Calvin Synod in May. Perhaps one of our recommendations should be the fine tuning of the Synod By-Laws regarding the role and duties of Assistant Pastors, especially when the pulpit becomes vacant. As administrator of the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church in Cleveland, I receive a need for greater clarification on this topic for the leadership as well as the general membership. Sincerely Louis Medgyesi, Dean First Church of Cleveland was soon organized and all others followed in a long line of succession till the number reached the mighty figure of onehundred-twenty congregations. Calvin Synod already voted on its last year’s Annual Meeting to make a proper Celebration together with the other leaders of all American Hungarian Reformed factions. Bishop was authorized to get in touch with the Bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and other denominational leaders to make it a National Event. Our “Tribe”, called the “Eighth Tribe”, is unfortunately split into exactly eighth fractions at the present. (Not in tradition of the Mother- Church, that has never been divided in close to five hundred years of its History.) Let us now make an unprecedented grand Move to produce a never to be forgettable Historic Celebration in these exciting times of our present History!!! VACANT PULPITS: The following churches are searching for pastors: United Church of Christ, Bridgeport, CT; Cleveland, Ohio West-side Reformed Church; Johnstown-Vintondale, PA, Yokedchurch.
