Youth from our Synod and the Ref. Church in America gathered together again in record number. The Reformed Federation and William Penn graciously contributed to the expenses. Rev. Lajos Medgyesi and Priscilla Hunyadi were in charge deserving the praise of both denominational bodies for the sole co-operative operation of the sister Church groups. * The traditional Ligonier Meetings of Church Workers and Ministers were held on days following Labor- Day. The high-light this year was the presence and the lecture of the presiding bishop of the Ref. Church of Hungary: Rt. Rev. Dr. Elemér Kocsis. * Churches still vacant are as follows: Bridgeport, CT., South-Norwalk, CT., Woodbridge, NJ. Bishop’s office to be contacted by those interested. * Synod’s Jubilee Album is available. Memorable Souvenier of Synod’s fifty years of existence. Bishop’s office is in charge of distribution. First Church of Cleveland, OH celebrates dedication Anniversary On the 10th of September First Church will hold the 40th Anniversary of the dedication of its Landmark Church. Combined Service at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Frank Endrei presiding. Hungarian Sermon by Dr. Elemér Kocsis of Hungary, English by Dr. Stephen Szabó pastor Em. The Solemn commemorating Service will be followed by a reception in the Third Floor Hall of the church. * Kalamazoo church celebrates 75th Anniversary on Sept. 16. This congregation of our Synod was organized just before the outbreak of World War I. in 1914. * The Solemn Ordination Service of our new bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Zoltán Szűcs will be held on September 17 in his Lorain church. The Service will start at 4:30 p.m. Synod’s officials will be participating in the traditional and inspiring Ceremony with Holy Communion. The presiding bishop of the Reformed Church of Hungary and the bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America will be also in attendance making it a historic Event. At 6:30 p.m. a great Banquet will follow with the well-known Hungarian-style dinner by the good ladies of the church. * The date of the 1989 District Conference of Presbyters and Church Workers is in Lorain, OH — Sunday, September 24, 1989. Our final time schedule is listed below, accomodating the wish of people to move to an earlier starting time by incorporating the host church’s worship service into the Conference: 9:30 a.m. — Hungarian Service 11:00 a.m. — English Service 12:30 p.m. — Lunch and Registration 1:30 p.m. — Conference Begins — Business Session — Election of Officers 5:00 p.m. — Conference Closes Please note that there will be a luncheon at the Lorain church rather than a dinner this year. Reservations should be made with the Hungarian Reformed Church, Lorain, Ohio, at (216) 277-8177 by September 17, 1989. This year’s Conference topic will be concerned with change versus traditions. Some of the subjects will involve tradition as opposed to local folklore, churches in transition, language versus commitment of feelings, and Christians as change agents. The conference topic will be further discussed in that day’s sermon as well. One of our speakers this year will be Bishop Szűcs, who will be one-half of a “debate” format for this year’s keynote address. * The Bishop of our Synod was visiting three congregations in vacancy at the present: Bridgeport, CT, South-Norwalk, CT and Woodbridge, NJ at the end of August. The Rev. Lajos Medgyesi, council-member, accomponied the bishop on this official trip. * The World Alliance of the Reformed Churches just completed its Meeting in South-Korea. By the appointment of the president of the United Church of Christ the Rev. Dr. László Medyesy of Wallingford (CT) and the Rev. Dr. Sándor Havadtőy of Fairfield (CT) were our representatives. Unfortunately Dr. Havadtőy on the return trip suffered a heart-attack in Tokyo, Japan. He is recovering in the hospital of that far-away city at the present and is expected to be released by the middle of September. The Primate of the Roman Catholic Church of Hungary comes to America Dr. László Paskai from Esztergom, who is the ruling Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary, will make a visit to the United States. There will be an ecumenical prayer service at 3:00 p.m. followed by a dinner in Bethlen hall. The Magyar Club is sponsoring and organizing this visit. The Magyar Club is also celebrating their 65th anniversary that day. COMING EVENTS
