CALVIN SYNOD HERALD — 8 — REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA Anniversary and mortgage burning The 75th Anniversary and Mortgage-burning was observed by our Cleveland West Side Hungarian Reformed Church on November 15th, Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and followed by a banquet in their Calvin Center for 550 guests. The churchservice was attended by 16 ministers, the local Mindszenty-Choir and the Regős’ group participating. Bishop Bütösi delivered the English, The Rev. I. Bertalan the Hungarian sermon. The Mortgage-papers were burned by the officials of the church, Messrs. Tatar, Scroeder, Bak, Maxim. The loan was borrowed from The debt of the United States government had reached a trillion dollars, which equals a thousand billion, or a million million dollars. Spending 86,400 dollars each day, it would take 31,688 years to use up a trillion dollars. One day’s share would solve the publication cost of the Calvin Synod Herald for about 10 years. Unfortunately we have financial difficulties year after year. And for this reason any donations for the upkeep of the publication will be appreciated. the American Hungarian Federation for a 15 year term, and it was paid back in less than three years. Besides the monthly payments, the church had met several other obligations, such as the building of a new garage, purchasing new tables and chairs, furnishing the pastors office, and buying a new bus (18 seater) mainly to transport the elderly to church on Sundays, a full line of office equipment: Scannar, Mimeo-machine, Addressograph, Xerox, Carillon bell-sounding system, etc., all of the latest vintage. But these are only the physical facilities, needed, however for the organization, but we consider them as means for a farther goal: the spiritual service of the church, in peace and tranquility for the greater glory of God. For closing this brief report I must make a mention of those truly dedicated men, and women, who worked so tirelessly to make this past November 15 an unforgettable day in the history of this church, so that we can look forward with invigorated faith and hope to serve our Lord and our people at the spot he placed us to be. A new church, spacious Calvin Center with adjacent buildings and facilities was added to the small church purchased previously. (The total cost was 640 thousand dollars.) Rev.
