Therefore, we re-establish it in the hope that the Lord will use it for communicating the Good News, sharing our common life, building our communion with Him and with one another. It will publish official communications of the Synod, news and educational information as well as personal notes of our “family”... In nomine Dei! .. . THE 43rd ANNUAL MEETING of Calvin Synod was held at Ligonier, PA on April 27-29. Of our 40 congregations 30 were represented with 56 delegates and 11 guests (67). In addition to the Holiday Inn, we also enjoyed the hospitality of the Bethlen Home and the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. HIGHLIGHTS of the Synod Meeting include: THE NEW CONFERENCE COUNCIL consists of the Rt. Rev. Dr. John Butosi, Bishop; the Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, Deputy Bishop; Rev. Stephan L. Nagy, General Secretary; Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig, Treasurer; Mr. Elmer Charles, Synod Presbyter. SPECIAL HONOR was given to the Rt. Rev. Árpád George at the Synod Banquet for his long and meritorius services as pastor, Synod leader including President, and President of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. The Rev. Dr. Avery D. Post, President of the United Church of Christ was also our honored guest. REPRESENTATIVES to the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home were also elected. They are, in addition of the Rev. Zoltán Kovács, delegates from Cleveland East, Columbus, South Norwalk, and Pittsburgh. THE EDITOR of our Calvin Synod Herald, the Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz resigned after 13 years of dedicated service. With sincere regret the resignation was accepted, and the Conference Council was authorized to employ a pro-tem editor as soon as feasible “to be approved at the next Synod Meeting (see below!) Upon the recommendation of the Finance Committee the per capita assessment was raised 25 cents. Thus it is $3.75 for 1981. (Local treasurers, please note it!) AN ANNUAL REVIEW of the pastor’s and other employees’ salary was urged again. The new Conference Council was authorized to put the Guidelines for Ministerial Compensation in a final form and mail it to the congregations before September 1, 1981. IN REGARD TO THE YOUTH CAMP, Synod voted to increase last year’s travel allowance to $35.00 for each camper who travels from over 200 miles, $25 for travel from 100 to 199 miles. Travel reimbursement, food and lodging will be provided for pastors who take part in the work of the camp for more than 3 (Continued on page 3)
