REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA And God said: Let us FORM man in our image. The world says: We must CONFORM man in our image. The devil says: I will DEFORM man by sin. Education says: Let us INFORM man by knowledge. Society says: We will REFORM man by culture. ONLY CHRIST says: I will TRANSFORM man by love. —The Sunday School Times BEATITUDES FOR MOTHERS AND FATHERS Blessed be mothers and fathers; for children are an heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward. Blessed be mothers and fathers; who love God with all their hearts, and others as themselves; for their home is one of real love. Blessed be mothers and fathers; who by the power of the Holy Spirit within them, enlighten the eyes of their children’s understanding of the Word of God; for then will the Word of God be hid in their children’s hearts. Blessed be mothers and fathers; who teach their children to pray with thanksgiving, to pray for others, to pray the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples, to ask, seek and knock in prayer in Jesus Name; for their children will KNOW that God hears and answers prayer. Blessed be mothers and fathers who spend time with their children. Listen to them, and teach, by example, then to listen to and respond to others. For fellowship and communication in the home brings fellowship and communication with God. 7 THE GREATEST WORD . . . 1. The greatest word is God 2. The deepest word is soul 3. The longest word is eternity 4. The swiftest word is time 5. The nearest word is now 6. The darkest word is sin 7. The meanest word is hypocrisy 8. The broadest word is truth 9. The strongest word is right 10. The tenderest word is love 11. The sweetest word is home 12. The dearest word is mother. Brownsville Hungarian Presbyterian Church Bulletin, Pentecost 1978. Rev. A. Jalso Blessed be mothers and fathers; who ask God for wisdom for this, the greatest, most privileged task in the world — rearing children. For if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not. Blessed be mothers and fathers who, by example, teach their children to share with those in need, and are careful to extend hospitality; for some thereby have entertained angels unaware. Blessed be mothers and fathers; whose love for their children secures but does not smother; who discipline in love (never anger), whose discipline never wavers. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed unstable in all his ways. Blessed be mothers and fathers; whose lives are committed to Jesus, the unchanging ONE. JESUS the same yesterday, today, and forever. HUNGARIAN BISHOPS ASK UCC "WORK FOR PEACE" “Christian churches, wherever they may live in the world, should not acquiesce in the deterioration of good relations, but should the more effectively work for peace,” says a letter from four bishops of the Reformed Church in Hungary to UCC President Avery D. Post. The bishops feel the strength of the Christian faith is being tested by deepening world tensions. “All churches — in East and West alike — should call the attention of the politically responsible to the incredible dangers of the situation,” they stress. They also urge Christians to affirm the international unity achieved in recent years through promotion of understanding, detente and disarmament. KYP, April 1, 1980 BIBLE SUNDAY IN THE REFORMED CONGREGATIONS IN HUNGARY On the occasion of the annually recurring “Bible Sunday,” the bishops of the Reformed Church in Hungary addressed a letter to the congregations. Here follow passages of the letter. “According to our faith, which we received from God and, as our legacy, from our Reformed fathers, the supreme norm of our life and actions is given to us in the Holy Scriptures. Is this true today, at the end of the XXth century? Even in the face of the complicated and urgent problems of our age, God leads his people by his guidance in the written Word, with the power of the Holy Spirit.” “The Christian churches, including ours, can only remain faithful to the Lord of the Church, if they take their guidance with regard to their worship and the timely contents and forms of their social ministry from the Word of God. The world around us, the men of good will, look to us with the expectation that we give an account of the hope that is in us. It is, in the first place, the Bible that gives us knowledge about the matters of general concern in the world.” “As we stated above: our dedication to the Bible is a legacy of our fathers. This also means that we today must read, understand and obey the Holy Scriptures in a way as to leave a precious legacy to the future generation.” HCP. March 15, ’80
