Synodical Council will recommend to the plenary meeting to send a resolution to the 11th General Synod of the UCC, the three main points being: RESOLVED, that the General Synod of the United Church of Christ supports the legitimate strivings of the citizens of the Socialist Republic of Romania with respect to the freedom to exercise their fundamental human rights and cultural freedom; and be it further RESOLVED, that the General Synod urges the World Council of Churches and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches to continue their efforts in investigating the facts and, in cooperation with the churches and competent officials of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Romania, to Endre Ady (1877-1919) assure the implementation of the constitutional rights with respect to human rights and cultural freedoms; be it further RESOLVED, that if the Socialist Republic of Romania continues to restrict the freedom of its citizens in the exercise of their fundamental human rights and cultural freedom, then the General Synod of the United Church of Christ urges that the 1976 United States-Romania Trade Agreement and the most-favored nation treatment of the Socialist Republic of Romania by the United States be terminated. # # We should recognize God’s grace in these opportunities and avail ourselves to them as long as the time of grace is open to us, remembering Paul’s words: “We entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, ‘At the acceptable time (kairos) I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation.’ Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2) A.H.
