And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger.” NARRATOR: ‘And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying.” CHORUS: Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the new-born King: Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.” Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th’ angelic host proclaim, “Christ is bom in Bethlehem!” Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the new-bom King!” NARRATOR:“ And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shep­herds said one to another: SHEPHERDS: “Let us now go even unto Bethle­hem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.” (Shepherds exit, singing: “Shepherds! the chorus come and swell! For unto you is bom this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord”. We left our sheep and came to see the Child. SHEPHERDS: Praise and glory to God! MELCHIOR: For many years I have studied the prophecies about the Messiah, the anointed Son of God, the King of kings. That prophecy now has become a reality, for my eyes even now be­hold the King, who shall reign glorious in the world, and rule in the hearts of all men! I pre­sent to Thee, O Child of God, King of kings, my gift of gold. CASPAR: The sages and wisemen have sought the wisdom and the revelation of God through the ages. “The tme light, which lighteth every man” is now come into the world. Even as this Won­drous Star has guided us to Thee, O Light of light, so let thff light of Thy Glory and Love lead us and all men in perfect wisdom and truth! I present to Thee, Light of my life, my gift of frankincense. BALTHASAR: Though a stranger in this land, I, too, come with joy in my heart, for now I behold the Saviour of the world! “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” I present to Thee, Saviour Divine, my gift of myrrh! Churches October 19, 1975 If we are to make this day and every day of the Bicentennial as a time to rededicate ourselves to God, there are some things we have to remember — We have to remember that our strength as a nation does not come from bullets and bombs or political or eco­nomic power — or one group of social standing being in slavery to another — But with the eternal faith of Moses — that we stand on holy ground — Where all life and all people and all our hopes are dedicated to God and the welfare of our neighbor. It reaches from this shore to the mountains — from coast to coast — from sea to sea and among all people. This spot on which we stand is holy ground — this city in which we live is holy ground. This nation of which we are all a part is holy ground — Here to this shore came those of every nation — seek-
