His concern for our spiritual and physical welfare knows neither time nor season; nor does our obligation cease: it continues the year around — not just nine months; not just 50 weeks — but 365 days. Even if you take a vacation trip, please don’t forget to use your Sunday envelopes. Mail them to the church or place them in the offertory collection before you leave town. Remember, it is God’s shower of material blessings that makes possible everything we do; from Him comes everything we possess. For very practical reasons, too, your continued support during the summer months is a necessity: your church’s financial obligations continue regardless of the calendar. In addition, the warm months bring increased demands on the financial resources of your parish. These are but a few of the reasons why, for the sake of God, His Church and our church, you are again urged to fulfill Christ’s command to support His Church. Sabbatical Leave Program (1974-75 Year Book, Penn Northeast Conference UCC) 1. A pastor must serve 5 years in the present charge to be eligible. 2. After 5 years he would qualify for a two-month leave with full salary. 3. He could use his one-month vacation giving him three months total leave. 4. The leave shall be used for personal or professsional growth through study, travel, etc., related to the pastor’s ministerial vocation. 5. The cost of the leave can be borne exclusively by the charge the pastor is serving, or jointly by the charge and the pastor, or jointly by the charge, the pastor and the Conference. In the latter case application with sufficient explanation to clarify the intent of the leave, will be made to the Conference Minister. 6. The apportioning of Conference funds, toward the costs of sabbatical leaves, shall be at the discretion of the Conference Minister, the Chairman of the Commission on Church and Ministry, and the Chairman of the Committee on Ministerial Compensation. 7. The pastor is expected to continue in his present charge for at least one (1) year after the leave. 8. It is recommended that the local church set aside funds annually in anticipation of a request from its pastor for sabbatical leave. e) That all local churches calling new pastors be requested to enroll them in the Short-Term Disability Plan. f) That the parsonage be included at 30% of the cash salary in calculating the salary basis for the purpose of computing the premium for the following coverages: 1. Short-Term Disability Insurance. 2. Family Protection Plan of Life insurance and long-term disability. 3. Pensions. i ..........................................................■.....■»■■■■■....................«■»■.■»»■...■.«..■e The Bishop’s Address: The Rt. Rev.
