Julian Nagy was installed as pastor of our New York church by Bishop Beretz. He was assisted by the Rev. Francis Vitéz, Dean of the Eastern Classis, the Rev. Joseph Kecskemethy, Synod Treasurer, the Rev. Alexander Havadtoy and the Rev. Zoltán Király. 80th Anniversary Our South Norwalk, Connecticut Congreation celebrated it’s 80th birthday on May 20, 1973. Bishop A. L. Beretz preached the Anniversary Sermon at the English service and the Rt. Rev. Dr. S. M. Böszörményi-Bessemer at the Hungarian service. The Rt. Rev. George was Master of Ceremonies at the Anniversary Dinner. Congratulations to the Rt. Rev. Dr. John Butosi, pastor, and to his people for their work and example in our Synod and in the Kingdom. Joliet Celebrates A small congregation had a big day on May 20, 1973 when our Joliet, Illinois congregation paused to give thanks to God on their 55th anniversary. Sister congregations from the Chicago-Calumet area sent large delegations to Joliet on this occasion. The Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy, Superintendent of the Bethlen Home preached the Sermon. Dean Victor Orth of Chicago conveyed the greetings of Synod and the Bishop. Others participating in the Service of Thanksgiving were the Rev-Official Communications erends Parragh, Ludwig, Mr. Benedek, Mrs. Medyesy and the pastor, Laslo Medyesy. Synodical Council in Princeton-Passaic On May 20 - 21, 1973 Synodical Council met in Passaic-Princeton, N. J. In Princeton, Synod Council met with Bishop Abraham and the Rev. Stephen Kovács of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and exchanged views on possible talks relating to the unity of Hungarian Reformed Churches. Council members present in addition to the Bishop were Rev. Aaron Elek, Deputy Bishop; Rev. Joseph Marsalko, General Secretary; Rev. Joseph Kecskemethy, Synod Treasurer and Mr. John Nemesnyik, Synod Presbyter. Dr. Bessemer Honored Our Bridgeport congregation on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of it’s Ladies’ Aid Society and the third anniversary of its new building, honored its pastor the Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Böszörményi-Bessemer by unveiling a Special Plaque with a bronze relief of his portrait inscribed with suitable words of appreciation and also naming the new building Bessemer Center. We rejoice with both the congregation and the pastor. Conferences The Mid-West Ladies’ Conference was held on May 6, 1973 in Chicago, 111. hosted by our Chicago West-Side Ladies. Speakers were Rev. Kalman Csia, Overseer of our Bethlen Home and Rev. Imre Szabó of Windsor, Canada. Rev. Desmond Parragh, host pastor, welcomed the conference and led the worship service. A Youth Conference was held on May 20, 1973 in Pittsburgh. Over 100 young people attended. The Rev. John Silassy was speaker. General Synod The Ninth General Synod of the United Church of Christ will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, June 21-26, 1973. Delegates from Synod are: Bishop A. L. Beretz, Rev. Zoltán Király and Mr. Albert Kovács. Sick Mrs. Victor Orth, wife of the Rev. Victor Orth of Chicago, Illinois underwent surgery in May. We are happy to report she is on the way to recovery.
