BERETZ 7520 Woodmar Avenue Hammond, Ind. 46323 Tel.: 219-844-8632 ANNUAL SYNOD MEETING Our Synodical Council has set April 30 — May 1 and 2, 1973 as the date for our Calvin Synod Annual Meeting in Ligonier, Pa. at the Holiday Inn. CLASSIS PRESIDENTS MEET Bishop Beretz called a meeting of the Classis Presidents and the Synodical Council on November 20, 1972 in Ligonier, Pa. to discuss various matters relating to our Synod work including any necessary changes in our Constitu­tion and By-Laws, a review of our ecumenical concerns and denomina­tional policies and trends. GENERAL SYNOD IN ST. LOUIS The Ninth General Synod of the Uni.ed Church of Christ will meet on June 22-26, 1973 in St. Louis, Missouri. Any overtures to General Synod should be sent to the Bishop’s office by Feb­ruary 1, 1973 in order for the Synodical Council to act upon it. REV. Z. SZABÓ REPRESENTS The Reverend Zoltán Szabó, pastor of our Columbus, Ohio congregation re­presented Calvin Synod at the Annual Meeting of the United Church Board for World Ministries on October 22- 25 in Columbus, Ohio. CLASSIS PRESIDENT SYNOD DELEGATE The Rev. Zoltán Király, president of the Eastern Classis, represented Calvin Synod as delegate to the meeting of the American Hungarian Federation in Official Communications Philadelphia, Pa. on November 3 and 4, 1972. CELEBRATIONS On August 27, 1972, our Hammond congregation, Bishop Beretz, pastor, dedicated its new Educational Fellow­ship wing with a thanksgiving service and dinner. The Rev. Desmond D. Par­­ragh, president of Western Classis, delivered the dedicatory sermon. The cost of the new wing is 150,000 dollars. Our Buffalo Church, the Rev. Paul Kantor, pastor, marked the 45th an­niversary of their church on September 17, 1972. Dr. John Butosi preached the anniversary sermon. All congregations and pastors rejoice with our brethren in these festive oc­casions. CONGREGATIONS The Rev. Arthur Antal was called as pastor of the Windber and Vinton­­dale, Pennsylvania charge. Rev. Antal was scheduled to begin his duties on November 1, 1972. The Rev. Julius Nagy was called as pastor of our New York congregation on August 20, 1972. He began his pastoral duties on October 1, 1972. Our Miami, Florida Congregation voted to cease functioning as a church. The Rev. Kecskemethy represented Synod at the dissolution meeting. A report will be made to the Synodical Council regarding property and finan­cial matters. Miss Margaret-Louise Beretz, daugh­ter of Bishop and Mrs. Beretz, has requested that she be enrolled as Stu­­dent-in-Care of Calvin Synod. CLASSIS MEETING The Central Classis met in McKees­port, Pa., the Rev. L. Berzeviczy, pastor, on November 19, 1972. Bishop Beretz was present and spoke to the meeting. NEW CHURCH PLANS Mr. Tibor Lorincz of Philadelphia, Pa. has been granted a Temporary Licence until April 30, 1973. He has also been authorized to begin the organi­zation of a new church in Philadelphia for people of Hungarian Reformed tradition and background. POLISH HUNGARIAN AWARD Bishop Beretz presented Dr. Karol Ripa, president of the Polish Hungarian World Federation, the Gold Medal Award of the Hungarian Association on November 4, 1972 at the 50th An­niversary of the Hungarian (Magyar) Club of Chicago held at the South Shore Club, Chicago. Bishop Beretz also delivered the Anniversary address. DR. BUTOSI IN CHICAGO The Rev. Dr. John Butosi, pastor of our So. Norwalk congregation, at­tending the Executive Council Meeting in Chicago, visited with relatives in Hammond and was guest at the Bishop’s home on October 18, 1972. Dr. Butosi led the devotions at the Executive Council Meeting. PERSONALS We are happy to report that Mrs. Arpad George is now on the mend as is Mrs. John Butosi. Mrs. Arpad Beretz was in Wesley Memorial Hospital for eye surgery.
