SUMMARY The aim of this book is to introduce the statues, monuments and building ornaments of Szeged, also known as the „City of the Statues”. The claim of some reckoning bore this inventory with the aim to present the little-known historicultu- ral and history of art importance public monument of Szeged as completely as possible. It allows you to see the past in different depths with the introduction of the stressed and typical works of art and ornaments placed in the public buildings and squares. You feel at home yourself in Szeged with these works. The statues, monuments, frescoes and various building ornaments are the expressive evidences of the decorative spirit, environment forming culture, history and ideals of the Hungarian nation, the people of Szeged. This book gives informations about their origin and does their aesthetical and historicultural evaluation. Its purpose, that as a guide help the citizens and tourists to be well up among the more than eight hundred public works of art. As many as 500 pictures helps to recall the mementoes so it serves as an album, light reading, local history handbook and history of art list. In the book you can read about the history of the statues. The territory of Szeged is inhabited for thousands of years. This place was one of the most important crossing point by Tisza river. Beeing on the edge of the Great Hungarian Plane and on the border of the southern countries and Transylvania it has had good geographical circumstances all the time, so there have been excellence conditions for urbanization. Our book deals mainly with the XIX. and XX. centuries. It gives informations about the ecclesiastical works of art from the XII. century. The secular subject-matter public commemorational exhibition ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Dieses Buch übernimmt die Aufgabe an sich, um die an den öffentlichen Plätzen der Stadt Szeged, — die man oft als „Stadt der Statuen” nennt — sichtbare Statuen, Denkmäler und architekturistische Dekorationsbauelemente vorzustellen. Das Inventar kam wegen einer bestimmten Berechnung vor, einen Vollquerschnitt anzubieten, über die kaum bekannten und wichtigen kultur- bzw. kunstgeschitlichen Kunstwerke, an den öffentlichen Plätzen der Stadt. Durch die, in öffentlichen Plätzen und Gebäuden erfindbare Kunstwerke, Ausstattungen, bieten wir eine Möglichkeit, in die verschiedenen Schichte der Vergangenheit einzublicken, mit den charakteristischen und hochbetonten Elementen der Stadtbilder. Dadurch können wir uns heimisch in der Stadtfühlen. Die verschiedenen Statuen, Denkmäler, Freskogemälde und die vielartigen Gebäudedekoration sind alle sprechende Dokumente der Lust der ungarischen Nation, der Bevölkerung Stadt Szeged in Blendearchitetur, Gestaltung der Umwelt und auch in der Historie, bzw. Gedanke. Die Aufgabe dieses Buches ist, dessen Entstehungsgeschichte, mit den ästhetischen und kulturhistorischen Mitteln bekanntzumachen. Ezielt wurde, ein Führer zu sein; eine Hilfe für die Stadtbewohner anbieten und für, in die Stadt neueingetroffe Gäste, zwischen den mehr als achthunderten Kunstwerken an den öffentlichen Plätzen. Ungefähr halbhunderte Fotos geben eine Möglichkeit die Erinnerungsbilder hervorzurufen, so entspricht als Bilderalbum, Unterhaltungslektüre, aber kann auch dienen als Handbuch für Ortsgeschichte. An den Blättern des Buches aufleben solche Statuenschicksale, unter anderen solche Kunstwerke, die durch den Sturm der Geschichte mitgerissen wurden. 443
