Fraternal Events Celebrated In Beaver Falls, PA On June 10,2001 we had our annual fraternal event at West Mayfield Park in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. It was a beautiful sunny day. The music filled the air, the children played - they loved the crafts, the games and the raffle prizes - and the adults socialized - we could not have asked for more! We had the best gulyás, hurka-kolbasz, sauerkraut sandwiches, and bacon fry. Children ages 12 and under received free meals and sodas - and there were at least 40 of them. It is very encouraging to see that parents continue coming to Hungarian events with their children. The day ended with a late bacon fry. A wonderful time was had by all. Peggy Fabri, Br. This year our fraternal event was held on Saturday, June 9, 2001 together with the Hungarian Scouts of Washington, D.C. Someone must have whispered in our ears to wait with the picnic until June because the weather couldn’t have been worse in May. Come June 9, we were blessed with the most gorgeous weather - blue skies, not a single cloud in sight and no trace of humidity. This made people swarm to the Benedek Farm, landmark of all our picnics, for fellowship and good food. The menu this year consisted of gulyás leves (goulash soup), turoscsusza (cottage cheese noodles topped with bacon) and a large variety of pastries. The turoscsusza was prepared from scratch by Irenke Vallario and Teri Pflum for one hundred people. It was a lot of work to do all those noodles, but it paid off because they were gone in no time.
